Hmmm . . . Jenny Galloway is the best thing on the TAC (and a lovely lady in real life too) - which I don't mean as a knock on the other performers, simply stating her incredible voice, charisma and protrayal Alun Armstrong is very very good also - and I was expecting some terrible things after the boring performance he outs in on the OLC - it was a lovely suprise. I also don't much like Michael McGuire - he's almost my least favourite thing on the recording. I'd actually like to see Anthony Crivello (Grantaire) do Enjolras - he's played Valentin in Kiss of the Spiderwoman (very similar role to Enjolras in some respects) and is grand, and I'm sure he's played Enjolras at some point.
Colm is wonderful - seeing as I've only heard him sing it I've nothing to compare to, but I think he does very well with a very difficult singing part. Philip Quast is 2nd only to Jenny Galloway on the recording and does a beautiful job with it. Michael Ball - yeah, he's good - nice voice, but he does seem a little 'through the motions'. Judy Kuhn is fine as Cosette - though, vocally, I prefer Rebecca Caine. Lea Salonga, however, was awful - I very much don't like her, I'm a die-hard Frances Rufelle lover Adam Searles - yes, that's his real accent Hannah Chick is a good enough Young Cosette - but isn't that a staged bang? I thought it was something to show how she's such a nervous child from all the abuse. if not - well, that's impressive
Finally, I love Ruthie Henshall and she is fantastic at everything However, I think I prefer Patti LuPone as Fantine (just a tad though )
Anyway, tis a very good recording
