Could someone tell me whether Matt Dudfield is just conducting or doing the full MD job?
Thank you.

Beyond the barricade is there a world you long to see?
Based on the Victor Hugo classic of the same name, Les Misérables has become one of the world’s most popular musicals. This theatrical masterpiece has been translated into 22 languages and professional productions have been seen by over 50 million people in 38 countries. It has won numerous awards throughout the world, including 8 Tony Awards.
Set against social and political struggles in Nineteenth Century France, the fugitive Jean Valjean is mercilessly tracked by Javert, who is possessed by the pursuit. Their sprawling saga takes us from the Parisian underworld, with all the colour and villainy of Dickensian London, to the excitement and high romance of the student revolution on the barricade.
For close to two decades audiences have been thrilled and inspired by this wonderful version of Les Miserables, which is set to one of the most memorable and dramatic scores ever written. I Dreamed a Dream, On My Own, ‘Do You Hear the People Sing?, Stars and Bring Him Home are among its many highlights which have moved audiences to standing ovations performance after performance.
Here is your chance to be a part of the Les Miserables phenomenon.
Auditions will be held August 7, 8 & 9. Call Jamie on 0433 999 248 or email encoretheatre@hotmail.com for audition kits and bookings.
March 2010 @ Princess Theatre. Bookings open in August 2009.

Congratulations to everyone cast! There's not as many return performers as Ii thought there might be but some excellent performers there (a lot of people I don't know too!) I'm really looking forward to hearing Valjean and Javert go at it vocally! I've got quite a bit of nervous energy right now. Just want to get stuck into the show! Buff

The boys on the barricade had their first shot(!) at using the guns last night. Lots of fun - a few Rambos in the bunch. The funniest reaction was Director Liz who wanted to hear how loud they were. She jumped a mile when she heard it and didn't want to hear any more! Buff

LAUNCESTON AUDIENCES ARE STORMING THE BARRICADES! 5,500+ tickets already gone!!
And here's why with the FULL crit' from The Examiner's Marcus Bower:
Theatre Review by Marcus Bower. The Examiner, Sunday 14 March 2010
Encore Theatre Company hit all the right notes on Friday when it presented Les Miserables at The Princess Theatre. Directed by Liz Bennett and boasting a cast of seasoned singers and an equally skilled production team, Les Mis shone on opening night.
One of the great musical melodramas of its time it is an epic tale of love, sacrifice, oppression and hope set against the backdrop of the French Revolution. Given its theatrical pedigree and the artistic demands this show presented, comparisons would and could be made; however, Bennett’s production was, on nearly every level, an extremely polished and professional affair.
It is to Encore’s credit that this musical possessed a look, a sound and a feel that lifted it to new heights in local musical theatre. While it could be argued that the singing occasionally outshone the acting and that some of the work was too declamatory, the energy, commitment and attention to detail were unquestionable.
Bennett, along with the indefatigable Matt Dudfield and the equally talented Di Summers harnessed and directed the talents of a cast that rose to the musical challenges put forward by Alain Boublil, Claude-Michel Schonberg and Herbert Kretzmar. Dean Cocker was outstanding as Javert while Natalie Bramich, Ross Marsden, Travis Hennessey and Matthew Garwood had a marvellous presence and invested their characters with feeling and conviction. John de Jong and Di Briffa had complete control of the musical score while Belinda J King’s reprise of Madame Thernadier was a crowd pleaser and Heidi Cooper was perfectly cast as Cosette.
The talented and vocally secure company had a superb theatrical platform on which to perform thanks to the work of Lighting Designer Darren Willmott and Set Designer James Walker. The look they were able to create and in particular the atmospheric lighting states Willmott devised to compliment Walker’s sets were simply outstanding. Add to this Win Gray and Amanda Papworth’s work as Costume Coordinators and the picture within the proscenium was complete.
Bennett’s Les Miserables was in so many ways a triumph. It was a sweepingly lyrical and emotionally charged production that has raised the bar - yet again - in local musical theatre. Encore Co-Production Managers Jamie Hillard and BJ King have clearly invested a great deal of time and money into this production and it shows.
Les Miserables runs until this Saturday and is a musical experience not to be missed.
CONGRATS TO THE ENTIRE LES MIZ TEAM ;D
