Thank God for Buff. If it weren't for him (even though his posts are usually about amateur theatre in Tasmania) this site would curl up and die. Does no one else post here anymore? What ever happened to Talissa?

I notice you haven't exactly been doing much posting yourself, Yonkers.

Lana, no one is interested in what I have to say, I just get abused. OK, here is a posting...two of the Production Company's shows for their 2008 10th Anniversary Season will be MAME (again) with Rhonda Burchmore(she has the costumes still!) and DAMN YANKEES with Chloe Dallimore.

You talk about yourself being abused, Yonkers.....but seriously, man. In your last two posts you have managed to say patronising and snide things about Buff and Tasmanian amateur theatre, the wayakka site and an innocent posting about a local carols evening. Abused? You poor thing. You don't deserve it.

OK, accentuate the negative - I was actually praising Buff for posting when nobody else here does, jeez. As for wayakka - it was an observation about the recent lack of activity. So drop the attitude buddy.

And amateur theatre in Tasmania and the advertised carols evening?
I was just saying it as I saw it. You complained about being abused. You're not. You are just called on for the things you say and the way you say them.
But consider it, once again, dropped.

What happened to Talissa is that she has had barely a moment to breathe most of this year in between working two jobs (one of which is retail, and at this time of year you can fill in the rest), tutoring students including a year twelve, doing shows, doing carols around Melbourne, preparing to move house and occasionally sleep. Yes, it means I haven't had time to post, but Buff has been keeping things up to date admirably, which means I can at least relax a bit and not worry that the board's going to go completely to the dogs. Hopefully once I've moved I'll have more time on my hands and will be able to actually contribute as I used to, but for now I'm just keeping a silent eye on the place and doing things like keeping out the spammers.
Merry Christmas to you, too.

Has anyone else noticed we're frequently getting the ad for the film in the advertising box at the top of the boards? Google is so clever sometimes!

And it's cool how when you wave the mouse over different bits it moves. Yay. Anyway, can't wait to see the movie!

***SPOILERS***
The movie was really good. Depp was amazing and Bonham-Carter pleasantly surprised me (I was expecting another over-acted role like in Harry Potter).
The cuts were necessary for the film the way Burton saw it - it wouldn't have made sense with the chorus there.
I love Rickman, and Baron-Cohen was really great. Anthony was sweetly kinda crazy-looking, which I liked - gave him an edge. I hated the way they cast Toby - he's made to be a really intelligent little kid, while everyone keeps referring to him as slow - it didn't match up.
I think Burton missed the point of the ending due to his vision. Basically, the second half of the film started with gore (albeit fake-looking gore, but still), and the formula was 'add more gore until we come to the climax which will be a gore-fest'. There was no feeling of tragedy and missed opportunities after he slit the throat of the beggar woman. It was just like 'oh yep, another one is dead, goodo', which made Lovette's murder not filled with hatred, but just another death too. As such, the end had no impact (except if you count the camera basically going red with blood).

I really liked it.
Depp grew on me.
I thought HBC's interpretation was different, valid and great.
But I couldn't stomach her singing voice. I was cringing whenever she sang. MORE SUPPORT, PLEASE.
I did miss a lot of the cut songs, in particular the Ballad of Sweeney Todd and the lack of ensemble in God That's Good but overall I think they did a great job.
I did feel that the film needed the epilogue though. I didn't quite like just leaving the end like that.
Johanna's voice didn't impress me, and I thought Anthony was too young.
But overall, SO enjoyable to watch.
