Okay, just doing a bit of demographics here. Even vote if you're a lurker, just so I can get a vague idea of who's where, and everything

Well, overseas demographic's just as important as local, so it's fine. And besides, I can hardly blame you for being born overseas!

I'm a born and bred Melbournian however I am looking to move to England (possibly Manchester or London) in about 18-24 months, so then I'll be joining the Aussie onslaught over there!

Aw thanks Julia.... you're not losing an actor in me though!
I think the reason we're losing so many over there is the simple fact that we have so much talent, and not enough shows for them to have guaranteed work! Take Thern Reynolds for example: HIGHLY talented performer, been in MOST highly successful shows over the past ten years, rarely gets a look in for any decent roles. Goes over to Europe, tours with Fosse (featured role), then gets offered a part in a movie, then goes over to the Middle East (or somewhere) with a European touring company for Chicago, then gets a show (Tonights The Night) where he's cover for the lead! So much work for him!
Mig Ayesa - Goes to London, less than a month later he's lead role in RENT, then straight after that gets WWRY, and is now playing Galileo in WWRY!
Seriously, so much work! If we had the theatre economy to support our talent, we wouldn't lose it! AGH! I hate Australians sometimes...wouldn't know talent and culture if it bit them in the butt!
Meanwhile (as you can tell this is an issue close to my heart!) I was out with some theatre guys one night, and this guy who went to NIDA was talking about the idea of making a "West End" type of thing in Australia. Where all the shows are in the one place. That way, people go to the theatre capital to see shows. We thought Melbourne would be a good place for it because tourists go to Sydney anyway (for the Opera House, the Harbour Bridge etc), so then they could go to Melbourne for shows! What do you all think? And what are your thoughts on where it should be?

Perth, ah the isolation. I've never been to Melbourne, in my life. But I reckon, if it came to fruition, that your idea rocks RockAus. Because I would love the option of flying to Melbourne and seeing as many shows as I could, rather than waiting for the chance that a show will be popular enough in the East for it to come here. Shows like the Lion King are not coming to Perth because we don't have a suitable venue, and it's not profitable for them. Serious theatre buffs, and there are enough here, would fly to Melbourne on 'theatre' trips I'm sure! Okay, rant about Perth's badness is over.

But it turns out that we're going to see Republic of Myopia instead, so it's probably turned out rather well :-D ~Julia

I think our tickets are for the 16th of January. I'm really looking forward to it. Although I had a scare the other day when I thought I'd lost the tickets.
I expect you'll let us know what you thought? *g*
