The Launceston Musical Society have called for expressions of interest of production personel for their next three shows In the Examiner on Saturday was an ad looking for Directors, Stage Managers, Set designers, technical directors etc. The shows are: 2005 The Music Man A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum 2006 Les Miserables It was interesting that the only position that was not mentioned was Musical Director. I don't know whether that means they will stick with the one they've used for the last few shows, or that they have got a new one in mind, or that they just missed it off the list. If I didn't have so much on already I wouldn't mind having a go at MD'ing one day. Buff

Hi Buff,
A few positions were not mentioned, including Musical Director, because they are filled. And not necessarily all by the same person.
All advertised positions are up for grabs.
Cheers,
Mitzi.

Thanks for that Mitzi. I only had a quick scan at the ad and it was the MD position that stood out to me as being not advertisied. I don't suppose you can tell us who the MD is for the various shows? I think I can guess for the bigger two, but I've been wrong before Buff

Hello again.
It's not "official" as yet, but all MD's have a history with the group. More info to follow, when "official".
Cheers.

My guesses are: Music Man/Les Mis - same as 42nd Street (PQ) A funny thing...forum - same as Nunsense (AK) How did I go? BTW, speaking of Nunsense - have rehearsals started for Nuncrackers yet? Nunsense was hilarious last year so I'm looking for to this one too. Who is involved? Buff

Not quite there, but warm...... very warm..... ;D
And Nuncrackers rehearsals started Sunday Aug 30 with a principal cast of:
Mother Superior - Joanne Seen Hubert - Brooke Laidler Robert Anne - Rae Smith Amnesia - Kate Carswell Father Virgil - Patrick O'Halloran
Some of the same chorus nuns as last year, with a couple of new additions.
Di Summers is Directing, with Teena O'Keefe looking after choreography.
And Musical Direction is being jointly handled by Andrea Koopman & Matt Dudfield.
Bookings are now open at the Princess (show only) or Dinner & show available from the Country Club Resort.
Various performance times (to fit in with dinner shows) and the season runs Nov 17 to 27 (but not every night). Best to check dates/times with the box office.
Cheers & see you at Fiddler,
Mitzi.

Some news about LMS's shows for this year. Originally "Music Man" was to be peroformed in June and "Funny thing...Forum" in November. They've had to change it as the theatre is double booked. "Forum" is now on in April (audition dates to be announced soon) and "Music Man" in October. From what I'm told the organisation which run the theatre stuffed it up! I'm a little bit dissappointed as I was considering auditioning for "Forum" but won't be able to as Buff Jnr is "scheduled" to arrive at the end of March. Oh well... Buff

I forgot to mention that I saw Nuncrackers. Damn funny show. ;D The only problem was with the audience. It was a "dinner & show" thing and a group had too much to drink and got a bit rowdy which was just plain rude! Buff

I had a letter in the mail last night saying people had approached the executive committee about changing the "Music Man" show to a different one. There was a meeting to be held that night to get people's opnions. Mitzi, did you make the meeting? What was the verdict? Buff

Hi Buff, Yes, I did make the meeting and yes, LMS have decided to go with a change of show. Instead of Music Man it was overwhelmingly decided to go with.... Guys & Dolls. Same venue & dates - Oct 2005 at the Princess. Other shows seriously considered included: Hair Chicago Singin' in the Rain All three are still possible future shows. Cheers, Mitzi

"something to chill you, something to chill you... the current commercial playing for Forum". Anyone else think it's the most woeful ad and would turn the general public off attending? Cheap and nasty and awful. Surely (if it wasn't sponsored) they could have paid a professional actor/director for the money that would cost... but, of course, even though they have a budget of umpteen thousand dollars, they pay barely nothing for even a decent ad. Seems like all the good shows these days - take for instance "Torrez" on last week at the Uni - are put on for under $6000. No way. Not for me anymore. If that - and Bill Carney - is all they come up with, not for me. No sirreedo.
