I thought I'd take the liberty of starting a thread for all the Helen/Adam stuff, so as to not clog up the Aussies in London thread. Anyway, I've been squeeing over this promo video for the past hour ;D www.wickedthemusical.co.uk/sightsvideo-hi.php MUCH Helen! And possibly some Adam too, but I, ah, wasn't really looking for him.

It's an awesome video and Adam does pop up in it.
Chookahs to the cast tonight since it's opening night.

It looks like no one's seen this video footage of the opening night which was posted on Broadway World. Lots of interviews with the cast and heaps of footage of the show. Enjoy! westend.broadwayworld.com/viewcolumn.cfm?colid=12620(I'm not sure if this will be a clickable link or not - fingers crossed!)

There are some reviews of Helen Dallimore on the West End messageboard on Broadwayworld. They are not good. She is mainly criticised for her poor singing.

Oddly, there's also many reviews of her on dozens of Wicked fansites where she is being fangirled like crazy...that's the beauty of the internet, you can find whatever you want Personally, I'd rather make up my own mind. I found her only 'weak' moment to be about eight seconds of dialogue, right at the start, before her fake accent fully settled. But then that might have just been me being all wtf because it was so unexpected, coming out of her Don't judge until you see, and if you don't see, you can't judge!

Ah, opinions based solely on hearsay. Aren't they a wonderful thing?
Having seen her, I can see where the people who criticise her singing are coming from. After all, people are used to Kristin Chenoweth in the role, with her big, clear top notes with room to spare. Helen is disadvantaged by the fact that she's not a high soprano. The notes she has to sing are in her range, but at the edge of it. And you can of course tell - some days more than others, of course - but at least they seem to tend to be on pitch, if a little strained.
However, that's a tiny bit of Glinda's role, and the rest I thought was great.

There's also the fact that Wicked has a pretty insane and fierce fanbase, and a lot of dissenters are that way solely because a person is not someone else. It happens every time there is a cast change, I've seen it And which, ah, is set to be me tomorrow night when Glinda #4 swings down in her bubble and I glare at her for not being Helen But it is true, and the OBC devotees are the worst. And bringing over one half of the original pair pretty much guaranteed that a lot of people were going to just see Helen as "not Kristin". And, if you read more than one or two select reviews, it becomes evident that the majority of people who then go and see the show, are won over. In fact, of all the reviews I have read (spread through four different fansites), there's only been one person who didn't like Helen. And she was bitter because Kerry Ellis was on that night, so she didn't like ANYONE Julia, perhaps Helen has also gotten better with time? When I saw the show, she belted those top notes right out of the ballpark!

Granted when I saw it, it was right before she was off for most of a week, so she may not have been in full voice. They are the top of her range, though. So they'll be the first to suffer when she's not in full voice.

Sally, those that are judging on Broadwayworld would seem to have seen Helen Dallimore in the show.

They may have, but have you? It's easy enough to blindly repeat what people are saying, but much better to form your own opinion In my insignificant little opinion, Helen's by far the best Glinda I have ever seen. And thus far, I've seen five, and adored them all. Perhaps on an off night one could fault her singing, but never her characterisation - the girl is ON, and never ever breaks.

No I haven't, I was merely offering an alternative to much of the blind idol worship that goes on here from time to time.
