i had a feeling.....that my posting my have been removed....so for those of you that didnt get the chance to read it and respond.....here it is again....i saved a copy in case such a thing occured....
its not a matter of being {in your eyes} awful, its a matter of stating MY opinion of TPC...now if that varies from yours, im sorry, and should you feel the need to delete or edit my remarks then i am also sorry....sorry for you that is....you would be living in a theatrical fools paradise....life {much like the theatre} is not all a bowl of cherries {good news} and it would be a bland beige boring world if we all went around gushing over ONLY the good things in life, its like saying hitler was a monster for killing millions of jews and terrorising the world, BUT he was a really good at dancing the polka, that may be the case, but he is a STILL a monster, rose coloured glasses dear...one needs to be aware of the shortcomings and faulterings....how can TPC or any producer or performer be expected gauge the publics feelings on what they offer if not through forums like this....belive me, when a production of value is presented, you will not find a bigger advocate than me, BUT, when we are discussing a particular show, company that i disagree with or dont like i am also going to offer my dislikes, im sure you have gathered...i think that TPC is amaturish at best....why can they do it in the states but we cant here....they have the some amount of time and probably less money....do they have a pratt on their side, me thinks not, and yet always seem to come through with the goods in a slick professional and cost effective way....dear moderater, if you feel compelled to set up a PUBLIC forum, expect the BAD with the good...feel free to edit me or delete me....but this is how nazi germany started, melodramatic? yes! but true....

oh - this thread looked so juicy, i couldn't help but join in. and i take no responsibility for this having no logical order. I really dont get theatre goers that clobber performances that they see, just to feel like they know all about theatre, and can feel all high and mighty about it. in the end, we are all fans of the theatre, its no competition. Everybody knows when a show isn't as great as it could be. but i do have a few small comebacks... Mediocrity is NOT rewarded in australia. It is simply attended because there ain't that much else to see quite sadly. and yonkers, i'm not sure why you keep going back to see these shows, if you are only disappointed time and time again. a friendly reminder: "The Production Company (Aust) Ltd is a not-for-profit theatrical company specifically developed to promote and showcase new and established theatre talent and to stimulate the Melbourne and Australian theatre industry. " are they not doing this? they never once guarenteed a full scale production of a musical. They are simply creating a vibe of theatre in this country that we would otherwise not beable to experience. At least they're attempting to keep some kind of an industry alive. I think most of you just enjoy not liking them. what else can you expect from 8 days rehearsal (11 for the principals) and as for the dance numbers which yonkers thinks are "often a weak spot with TPC shows"... with the encore series format, on which TPC is based, they don't even include staging or chorey. So in fact, you're getting more than you paid for. Would you rather to pay the same price and see them stand in a straight line and just sing? ps, the ensemble dance their little butts off! I guess it's inevitable that some people are just going to criticise regardless. - yes we all have our own opinions, but some people opinions are just pooey. and as someone one said, when they felt the same way i do now, after reading this thread : if you cant say something nice... dont say anything at all ultimately... we all just love theatre. SO GET OVER IT! roo x

i really dont think that WWII parrallels to The Production Company shows for me...
some people just need a good hug sometimes don't they??
yonkers and mothercabrini you should start your own threads... online debates even.
but as someone mentioned earlier in the thread. this one is titled "favourite shows"...
speaking of favourite shows...
I think bye bye birdie was the funnest - telephone hour rocks my world... and there is a song "lotta livin", the bongo arrangement was googsebump material and high society had some kick ass performances of great songs. Tamsin singin that one "its the wrong time, in the wrong place.... though his face is charming etc... " cant remember the name...

Oh! "It's Alright With Me" - I loved that song, and now have it stuck in my head, and that's a good thing. Seriously sent shivers down my spine in the state theatre.

Just to clarify, I didn't delete mothercabrini's post. I've been out all day, with class 9-11 and work 12-8, and have only just gotten home, so I literally wouldn't have had a chance to go around deleting posts.
So I have no idea what happened, and I'm going to bed, because it's tech week next week, and I get little enough sleep as it is.

as i said...if i think a show is worthwhile....ill praise it till the cows come home....i adored bye bye birdie....it was well staged, well acted, well danced and well cast...i enjoyed call me madam for all of the above reasons....BUT ....the majority of what TPC has to offer is sub standard....we have such a wealth of talented people in this country that are under-used and a plethora of untalented people that are OVER-used...i fear that TPC is an OVER-user...you all seem to take it as a personal insult that i have an opinion different to yours....i think is not me that needs the hug...yonkers, we should do tea one day and discuss some of the heady days of j.c.williamsons

Roo, I think you need to re read my posts, just to clarify.
*I've ceased going to these poor (even by concert staging standards) presentations. *Re what I said about dance spots, what I meant was by the principles carrying scripts it would free up time/money that could be used to rehearse the dancers. The Waiters Gallop in Dolly was reduced to 3 dancers waving Target tea towels (with price tickets still visible) around for 16 bars. This isn't good enough, in terms of quality and for a $70 price ticket. The whole presentation of Hello, Dolly! was a fiasco.
I still think poor choice of shows/directors is a major issue too, but I've covered that previously. Regarding the suggestion of creating critical threads, I'm all for this but would anyone here have the guts to voice anything other than too gush (again and again) over Tamsin Carroll? This forum needs more pro & con arguments otherwise the whole site is redundant (other than to publicise shows).

Okay, so now you've stopped seeing TPC shows? When, exactly? From your comments, it seems you've seen They're Playing Our Song, Call Me Madam and Hello Dolly. Anything else? I hadn't seen many before last year, but I've heard it widely said that last year's shows in general were vast improvements on previous years.

'Song' was the last I saw in 2003. I'm told Carousel last year was good.
There is nothing on this years list that interests me. The selections are very unimaginative... Kiss Me Kate a great show but Marina Prior is too lightweight for the role, Sunset Boulevard way too soon to bring that back (certainly not with Connelli), though Michael Cormack almost made me think twice, and not Oklahoma! If you are going to do a R & H why not Allegro or even State Fair something we haven't all seen again and again. How much do you want to bet they do Sound of Music next year? No, I think my entertainment dollar can be spent better elsewhere this year.

sorry for jumping into things here and into my soapbox when im not even an aussie but i saw the broadwayworld.com forums mentioned and please no dont become like them! there's not only 'pros and cons' being discussed there but a hell of a lot of bitching and they get really tiring. i liked coming here not only because i'm in australia and it's fun finding out what's on and the like but also because everyone is so supportive and i visit bwworld too but get really sick of it a lot. and what a lot of people there (and some here I imagine) dont realise is that "actors are people too" as in regular folks who might go surfing the net from time to time as well as any non-actor does, and when your ratting on them/their shows in a public forum it’s pretty much the same as if you were telling them to their face. I’ve done a show on bw (I was a lowly swing so no one noticed me! ) but it’s so disheartening too when someone goes, oh the chorus was so lackluster that night, they looked tired and dull and stuff and you’re reading that thinking, well I was exhausted and YOU try kicking that high in heels that big with a smile on your face! no one except ensemble members knows how hard ensemble members work! were not doing the show for all the accolades heaped upon us, we’re paying the rent and the bills and getting experience and then someone goes and says, oh they shouldn’t have even bothered doing that show. How do you know whose reading what you’re saying? By all means bitch in private and pick everything apart, but i like a public forum where everyone is supportive. and as a really bad example, my sister is friends with shoshana bean (actress on bw) and i know how awful it is for her when she goes to bwworld and other forums and finds people badmouthing her friend, and then you get supporters fighting back who then go and badmouth her ‘competition’ and it all ends up a huge ugly mess. you guys here are a lot more civil than that. i like people that run by the rule, if you can’t say anything nice, then don’t say nothing at all, as thumper would say!! And if you really want to say something not so nice then at least figure out a way that it wont be hurtful if someone youre talking about, or a friend of theirs, happens to read it. some of the people i worked with said they wouldnt touch bwworld (and so on) with a ten foot pole because of the things that went on there, things said about their friends, that might one day be said about them. i know after I went on for the first time i avoided the net for like a week after just because i didn’t need the ego crushing -- and who notices the blonde third from the left? I hope all that made sense. i’ve been telling friends back home about this place so they can read reviews and stuff of what goes on down under, i don’t want them to think I’ve sent them to another bitch forum!!
