An utterly brilliant show tonight, most likely one of the best they've done (though the audience still loses out to the one who applauded the flag twice. Being in general so slow to get into the theatre didn't help this one, either. I counted at least 20 people walk into the theatre after the show had started, despite it having started a little later than usual as it was, since the audience took so long to be seated), and the cast seemed in fairly high spirits (I can't imagine why).
Particular stand-outs tonight were Michael Cormick, Ian Stenlake and Amanda Muggleton, all of whom were in utterly brilliant form. Michael was so perfectly chilling, and Amanda was absolutely on fire. Loved every moment. Chris Tomkinson was also in good voice, and he and James Millar were both spotted hamming it up quite nicely in certain scenes. Also worth a mention, and one I keep meaning to say, but never remember, is Simon Gleeson, who I swear improves every time I see him, and has come so far even since Republic of Myopia.
One who didn't seem quite at full power tonight was Rachael Beck, whose voice is usually much more powerful than tonight, and I thought she looked a bit off colour at times. Hopefully it's just something passing. Verity Hunt-Ballard, however, was in worse shape, missing the show entirely, but they covered for her well, though the harmonies didn't quite sit properly.
But yes, Amanda was sheer brilliance tonight, Michael was excellent, and if the cast continues this way for the next couple of weeks, even those reviewers will have to eat their words. Wonderful work.
