this is a bit of a later review ... but yeah.
This is a brilliant play! Cast includes, Georgie Parker, Nicholas Eadie, Emily Russel, Max Cullen & Sandy Gore.
In Act One, we are told of the collapsing marriage of Nina Moss (Georgie Parker) and Matthew Molyneux (Nicholas Eadie) from Matthew’s point of view. In Act Two, it’s Nina’s turn, and a richer picture of their relationship takes shape.
Nina & Mathew have two young girls. Nina hasn't been at work since the birth of her two girls. Mathew gives Nina a challenge and gives her the oppurtunity to write a biography on Lawerence Cillford (Max Cullen).
Mathew has recently hired a new young publisher Siobhan (Sophie Gregg) who's views are completely different to his, she's bringing in a new genre with her and he isn't please that a person half his age is trying to tell him what to do. What makes it worse, is his brother Darcy is having an affair with this much younger woman, while his wife is at home looking after their 8 month old child.
Mathew and Nina start to grow apart, Mathew is concentrating more and more on work and Nina is busy writing her biography and spending vast quantities of time with Lawerence.
Nina tries to talk to him about their marriage, but he refuses and is convinced nothing is wrong. Mathew and Darcy's mother, Margaret (Sandy Gore) is a drunk and was married to an asshole of a man who cheated on her numerous times, but because of the love she felt for her husband and because of the loyalty she felt she owed to her boys she stayed with him until he died ... she tries to help Mathew and Nina. She often brings comedy to a very sad and upsetting play.
Lines like - "Siobhan, my sons are married to two wonderful women. Sometimes i think they're the only ones that don't know it"
Sarah (Emily Russel) who is Nina's sister, also brings some light comedy to the stage. She knows her sister and knows something is wrong. She often tries to bring help and guidance to Nina, who refuses. She thinks Sarah has no idea because she hasn't been married or had kids and what not.
As time goes on, Nina and Mathew drift further and further apart, and Nina gets closer and closer to Lawerence, who not only is her subject, but also 20 years older than her.
Nina ends up having an affair with Lawerence. Which results in Nina leaving Mathew. Shortly after Mathew starts sleeping with Siobhan ... Mathew wants Nina back, but Nina had just adjusted being alone and she was happy living that way.
So the play goes through the failing of a marriage. The stages. It's a very depressing, sad but it's also very moving and powerful play.
The perfomances by Parker and Eadie are indescribable. It was brilliant to see Parker in a different role, and on theatre. She has a natural act for it, again she was excellent, cannot wait to see her do more theatre work. Her performance was powerful and moving.
Eadie is brilliant. He delivers the lines with passion and it is extremely believable.
Alright. There you go. There is my review ... hope you enjoyed it
