This was pretty much exactly what you expect from an OA G&S production.
The HMS Pinafore set, as grand as it was, got a little tired having little to vary it. The cast was pretty damn good, and you'll be pleased to know Collette Mann didn't stand out too much as Buttercup.
Trial By Jury was very much done as a mock soap opera. The physical comedy was very well done and Anthony Warlow really came into his own as the judge. I think it needed to be played for the slapstick as it was cos the plot was completely absurd.
I've noticed that endings are a low point of G&S stuff. None of them feel right, especially these two. I suppose by opera standards they're probably not bad, but it kind of leaves you cold.
Worth seeing though,
James.

My friends went and saw this show last week. They thought it was excellent. They had real trouble believing the judge was Anthony! He must have been very convincing as an elderly judge. One thing they did mention was that David Hobson was not the best - he was flat most of the night apparently Buff
