My own mini Oklahoma review from last night's show. In a word: wow!! TPC always do like to go out with a bang, huh? A show well worth seeing through a slight haze of jetlag (which wasn't as bad as it could have been) though my deepest apologies to all the actors for the several times I almost nodded off - and my greatest thanks to the various people who shot really loud guns on the stage. Wake-up call!
I'm always amazed with TPC's impeccable casting - not that I'd expect anything less, but they always get every show just absolutely spot on, down to the smallest roles. Also? So awesome to see Louise Bell in a larger role - she's always a standout performer in any TPC show in any case, so it's great to see her getting more and more to do.
Ado Annie has always been my favourite character because really, how can you NOT love her? And Amanda Harrison was fantastic! Perfect for the role, so gorgeous and thoroughly enjoyable. I said it after Leader of the Pack but now I'm reiterating it twice as loud: my god I want to see her in more stuff!! Mitchell Butel also, as Ali Hakim...I won't lie, made me cry with laughter on more than one occasion. The man is a comic genius.
Can I cop out and just say everyone else was incredible? Lucy was brilliant and gave Laurey just the right amount of spunk - and played so well off Amanda's Annie - James was the most wonderfully creepy Jud ever - Ian was glorious, I love when he gets to show off his voice like that! And Nancye Hayes was the epitome of Aunt Eller. Wonderful.
Also, TPC always rates highly as far as ensemble goes, but this one just seemed a notch above the rest.
All up a seamless show. And I adored the Dream Ballet finishing off act 1, that was gorgeously done and just amazing to watch
(And right about now begins the speculation of 2006 shows ;D)
