From the Herald Sun. Great news!!! Can't wait to read it.
Byrne plans to spill the beans Shaunagh O'Connor 12jul04
DEBRA Byrne is swapping her piano keyboard for its computer counterpart: she has signed up to write her autobiography.
Still to be written and due out at the end of next year, Byrne's book promises to look at the world of TV's Young Talent Time, her battle with drug addiction and her life on stage with shows including the one she is most famous for, Andrew Lloyd Webber's Sunset Boulevard. Publisher Pan Macmillan was taken with the synopsis of the proposed book, and its non-fiction publisher Tom Gilliatt says the story is one that "is very tough for her to write".
"It is honest and raw and utterly compelling, and my feeling is that it is going to be a big bestseller on release," Gilliatt says.
"Debra is a natural storyteller, and that combined with a devilish humour makes it a fantastic mix."
Gilliatt has seen Byrne's references to Young Talent Time and "'if she brings the self-examination to the rest of her life that she's brought to the early bit then it's going to cover everything.
"I've got no fear that Debra will, in any way, shape or form, hold back."
A Pan Macmillan spokesman said Byrne was paid a "substantial amount" to write her story.
