This is my first post here, but I am Lana from Perth.
Last night I saw Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Lucy Durack and Matthew Robinson's cabaret show Downstairs at the Maj here in Perth. It was an amazing night so I'm sharing my thoughts.
We were lucky and got a table right next to the stage. They started out with the title song, "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" which was really fun. From here all of my thoughts are out of order and just how they came to my mind and I'm sure I'm missing out details.
- My friend and myself absolutely cacked ourselves over their country duet where they both played girls, as well as Matthew's song about Broadband and Foxtel.
- They sung the title song from Metro Street (adored it) and gave it a bit of a plug, which was exciting, I wish I could be in Melbourne for that. They also sung a duet that is now the second to last song from the show, and it was beautiful. Lucy sung Dignity and it seriously blew me away.
- Apparently Lucy dared Matthew to write her a song in 24 hours while she was doing 42nd Street (she showed off a little tap for us!) and so he did. It was all about Disney movies and I cried a little it was so funny. Especially the lyric about the Lion King and feeling the love tonight... but only after marriage.
- Matthew sung Radio, which I greatly enjoyed. A bit of a plug for his CD, which worked because I bought one.
- After the show there was a slightly reluctant encore (Lucy said something about not wanting to prevent people from getting home) of Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.
Every song they did was awesome. Got to say hello to Lucy quickly after, she was as sweet as always, and Matthew was behind the counter selling the CDs himself. He wrote in each one he sold and had a bit of a chat with everyone.
It was a great night, very glad I went and I want to see them perform together again!
