I just finished listening to the entire Les Miserables Cast Recording, and I thought I needed to vent so I started this thread. What is your fave part of Les Miserables? Okay, I can't choose one at all, but I have a couple. - Fantine's arrest. - Fantine's death (boohoo) - Eponine's errand - Robbery, Javert's intervention. The part in which I absolutely melt though, is when Marius has been trying to get Eponine to tell him what's going on with the robbery, when he bumps into Cosette and sings, "I didn't see you there, forgive me." I almost CRIED when I heard Michael Ball doing that, lol, it's not really THE most dramatic scene of the show, but still, *sniff* it's beautiful. I LOVE Michael Ball as Marius, and Ruthie Henshall as Fantine. Actually, I love the whole original cast, (whoohoo, go Anthony Warlow) except perhaps Eponine. I know her voice is supposed to be nasal, but....argh!

I love the whole show, of course *g* But if I have to choose favourite bits...
- Fantine's death - it's such a beautiful scene! - Turning - You either love it, or you hate it, I've found, and I love it. So tingly - Gavroche's death - I always cry - Eponine's errand - "The people have not stirred..." - Ever since I heard the Enjolras in my production sing this the other day, I've been in love with that bit. He sang it so beautifully!
Which Eponine's that?

I don't recall that line from Enjolras...where does it fit in? And I totally forgot Gavroche's death...he so shouldn't have died, I can feel a whine coming on! I actually love all of the deaths scenes, even Javert's, poor guy, I think he's just a bit misunderstood. But yes, Fantine has the best death scene...closely followed by Gavroche. I think you just want to play Fantine for the death scene, don't you? Fantine's part is the the best, music wise I think...all the scenes in which she sings make me cry.

Enjolras sings that right after "Bring Him Home", when everyone's about to wake up after the Night.
I have very firm views about Enjolras and Gavroche. I'm convinced that, had Gavroche lived, he would have grown to be just like Enjolras. And of course, that meant I went all gushy when, when we practiced our bows, Cosette and Eponine each bow with their younger counterpart, and Enjolras bows with Gavroche. It's so perfect!
I don't think Javert's as much misunderstood as that he misunderstands. He's had his perceptions of the world mixed up for so long that he can't bear to have them torn down like that.
It's partly the death scene that makes me want to play Fantine, but I also love the character. I sing I Dreamed A Dream for my singing lessons, and I find that I can always make myself feel exactly what she would have been feeling. I think, once my voice is mature enough, I'll be able to play her really well.

Morbid as it sounds, I like all the death scenes too - they're all really moving and have beautiful music. Fantine's might be my favorite - but I also like Valjean's, with the trio of him and Fantine and Eponine. The other part I really like is Do You Hear the People Sing - I just adore that song. And One Day More - in fact, that might be my favorite part overall. But I like most of the show.

The Eponine is Lea Salonga, her voice suits the part for the majority of it...just On my own. But then again, heaps of people love her so I don't know, just my own, humble opinion. Don't worry, I know Javert isn't nice. He's a very intriguing character I think, I saw the video when I was little and I HATED him, but I don't as much anymore, you've got to feel sorry for the guy being so twisted!! Yes, One Day More is definitely one of my faves. Lol, I think they are all my faves, I can't choose. But One day more is definitely up there. I could not, no matter how much you paid me though, order them. Impossible!

I've got "take my hand...", from the Epilogue as my ring tone on my phone at the moment. It's such a beautiful song, and I love Eponine's harmony. Too bad you can't program harmonies in your ring tone.
One Day More's one of my favourite scenes, both for listening, and performing. That, the Beggars, and the Wedding are so much fun to rehearse!
I'm hoping I'm not sick of Do You Hear the People Sing by the end of our show. We're singing it 3 times each performance. I doubt I'll hate it. If I ever think I'm heading in that direction, I have plenty of pretty Enjolras' voices to listen to to cure me *g*

Isn't "take my hand" a version of On my Own? Did you know, I just realised that Fantine's death is her singing on my own....just with different lyrics and Jean Valjean interjecting occasionally. I'm so silly! I want to find a cool ringtone for my phone. Can you do polyphonic ones? I'm thinking the overture from Phantom, that would be cool...or something form either Phantom or Les Mis. Nah, I probably wouldn't be able to decide.

There's just too many! Master of the House - for the laughs A little fall of rain - for the emotion Do you hear the people sing/One day more/Finale - for the sheer joy of singing those parts Buff

Iolanna, if you think about it, liking any part of Les Mis is morbid, because of the amount of death and suffering in it. Oh, I'd forgotten A Little Fall of Rain! That was one of my first favourites. Okay, now I feel really silly. I'd noticed the connection between Fantine's Death and the Epilogue, but my brain never quite realised that that was On My Own I think Eponine's harmony in the Epilogue distracted me. ~Julia

Nah, I probably wouldn't be able to decide. I think some of the more expensive ones let you do harmonies, but not most of them. I know someone whose husband tried to make a phone play chords by putting short notes really close together and putting the tempo up to its fastest speed - it didn't work.

I know someone whose husband tried to make a phone play chords by putting short notes really close together and putting the tempo up to its fastest speed - it didn't work. That's a really interesting idea. Hmmm... I know that I've tried compensating for tied notes by putting the same not next to each other, but it doesn't work. Thankfully, though, the mobile phone industry's one of the most quickly moving ones, so it shouldn't be too long before polyphonic phones are affordable ~Julia

I kind of lost this thread, how silly of me! Yeah, I felt silly when I realised it was the same theme, but it's hard to tell in Fantine's Death scene especially because Jean Valjean keeps interjecting. By the time I get a new phone you probably won't be able to get homophonic ringtones anymore.
