Finale numbers are supposed to generally include pretty much everyone, non? Then why is it that a large portion of our chorus seems to be being excluded from our Finale? Has anyone else ever seen this done? I haven't heard it officially yet, but I'm getting the impression that only the leads and students will be onstage. Thoughts?

That is definitely a bit odd, I've seen two productions of Les Miserables and as far as I know the whole ensemble was on the stage for the finale. I suppose it might make sens technically as I don't think any of the women or non student men would have been killed at the baricade, and they are supposed to the dead after all, but it is the finale, and everyone should be on stage. In the show I was just in a couple of our leads weren't in the finale because the characters were actually rehersing for the finale in the show, and they weren't in those scenes so it didn't make any sense for them to be in it, but I'd certainly be complaining if the whole group wasn't in the finale of Les Mis. Start a protest!

Okay, heart attack over. Neil had just been mistaken when he said that we'd still be in our ball dresses for the curtain call. So yes, we are in the Finale *sigh of relief*

Glad to hear it, the finale of Les Mis is fantastic, I'd hate to be left out of that! I bet you are happy you get to wear a ball dress, I guess you are in rags for the rest of the show.

It would have been strange for the whole cast not to be on stage at the end. I see the finale as a representation of all that has gone on in the past - all the lives that have been affected by Valjean. Although, if memory serves me correctly, in our production Javert was not onstage for the finale Plus, the final "Tomorrow comes" that is sung needs all the voices you can muster!! It has to be huge! I'm looking forward to the ball dress. It'll be fun! But the rags will be cool, too. Although I also get my nun's habit, and I think my clothes when I'm a Parisian girl will be slightly less dilapidated.
Javert's on stage for our finale, but right over at the side. I don't remember seeing the Thenardiers anywhere, though.
Our "Tomorrow comes" is sounding great, although it isn't the last thing we sing, with this notion that Neil came up with of singing during the curtain calls. Instead, we sing The People's Song while bowing, and at that "tomorrow comes" at the end, we stop after "tomorrow", without even a rall, and there's a small pause before we sing "comes". It feels rather odd...

Our Enjolras was told to wait, ponder and let it all sink in for a while, then sing "Larmarque is dead". There was a betting ring going to pick how long he would pause for. His record was about 10 seconds - which in stage time seems soooo long There was another betting ring between the director, stage managers and other crew about one of my shirts, but that's another story. Lol, well, as my director would say, "It's all in the silences" I'm still trying to get my head around that pause in "tomorrow comes" though...well, I'm sure it'll sound decent on the night anyway, hopefully your director knows what he is doing.

We have the pause before "Lamarque is dead", too, although some of the other students are moving around, so it doesn't seem as long. What was really bad was in the production I saw the other month, in which the Gavroche tried to be dramatic by saying "General Lamarque.....is dead!" It didn't work, other than to make the audience giggle. We were joking around by saying that our pause is just long enough to grab a sip of water, check our mobiles, tie our shoelaces....It isn't really, of course I'm sure it'll sound great, or else Basil will change his mind at some point. I trust our directors. They haven't led us astray yet. ~Julia

Hahaha, you hear a phone going off during the dramatic pause, now THAT would kill the moment. I dropped a pen in the minutes silence on ANZAC day once, I swear you don't know how loud a pen dropping can be. Oooh, and I just went up, posts wise! I like these names Julia, very cool.

Oh gods, that's going to happen, I bet. Phones only ever go off in pauses. It happened last night at choir rehearsal. We'd all be standing there laughing Good thing it's just curtain call It was enough when, during one rehearsal, right as Gavroche finished singing "When the pup grows up!" there was a huge roll of thunder. It sounded like some sort of omen ~Julia

Jesus had just said something along the lines of "That man will be cast into the fires of hell!" when the thunder and lightning hit - awesome, but scary! Buff
