A studio recording of twelve songs from the new Australian musical, Joe
Starts Again, is now available at www.middle8.com
For those of you who are not already aware, Joe Starts Again is the only
Australian work to be invited to the inaugural New York Musical Theatre
Festival (www.nymf.org) to be held next month. Six performances of the show
are scheduled between 15 and 24 September at the 45th Street Theatre.
Joe Starts Again was first performed at Chapel Off Chapel in Melbourne in
August 2003. In April 2004 it won the Green Room Award for Best Original
Musical Work - Book, Score & Lyrics. It also received three other Green Room
nominations for Best Performance By An Actor in a Musical (Martin Croft),
Best Musical Direction in a Musical (Dean Lotherington) and Best Direction
in a Musical (Cameron Wenn). In May 2004 it played the SBW Stables Theatre
in Sydney to critical acclaim. John Shand of the Sydney Morning Herald
said, "... amusing, touching and rather wonderful one act, one man, one
pianist, one of a kind musical ... Croft's performance is a heartwarming
tour de force." Diana Simmonds of the Sunday Telegraph called it
"wonderful, rich uplifting theatre."
