I had heard that it was there was a possibility the show might be, but not heard anything official that it had been cancelled. That will be a big dissappointment for them. Buff

I just had a look at the LMS website and all references to Oliver have been removed, so that pretty much confirms it. Buff

I'm a longtime visitor to this site but this is the first time I've felt I've wanted to post something.
LMS should feel pretty ripped off about having to cancel Oliver. It looks like the new group has deliberately set auditions and performance dates to sabatage Oliver. For a group that said in the paper they want to support theatre in Launnie, this is nto a good start.

I don't think having the same audition or performance dates constitues sabotage ... I do agree that if all the groups were to support each other they would agree to not overlap dates, but if other -new- groups with less support were able to go ahead with their project when LMS couldn't, I don't think this was a factor. I remember hearing they were having trouble filling production team roles.
Haha listen to me, I'm not even in the state anymore. I want to come home and be in small town musicals! It's a little disappointing as my little sister was looking forward to auditioning.

Sabotage is a pretty strong word. Which new theatre group were you talking about? Encore? Sound of Music performance dates are not the same as Oliver's were, and it seems pretty silly to accuse them of sabotage just because both shows were due to be on in the same month.
As Josh said, LMS were already having trouble with Oliver. I don't know what the reason is for the cancellation were, but let's not jump to conclusions.

Sabotage??? Sounds like someones been watching too many spy movies.
And besides, I'm pretty sure there's a couple of "life members" from LMS in the cast of Encore's Sound of Music. Why would they support a new group that was out to "sabotage" a company that they have spent years working with?

OK maybe sabatage was too strong but the point I tried to make is that Encores timing was lousy for LMS and they would have known that. Theres only limted number of people who do shows so it was always going to be impossible to cast two big productions. And theres also only a limited number of audience members. LMS and Players agree when shows are going to be produced so not to cross over. Would have been nice if Encore should the same courtesy.

Actually, again I don't agree.
The Players and LMS have done big productions with very close seasons, and both with very large casts. In 2001, LMS did Sound of Music (almost 60 in the cast) and The Players did Les Miserables (well over 60 in the cast). So casting 2 large shows with close seasons in Launnie is more than possible, it's a proven fact. Oh, and both of those shows were very well attended, so there was more than enough audience for all.
Granted, the timing could have been better but it is my understanding that the week Encore have got at the theatre was only recently vacated by... The Players! Go figure...

Sound of Music isn't a big cast. If you look at the cast list Encore posted on here, you'll see that. Oliver would have been a much bigger cast, but as paulie as said, there's no reason to think they wouldn't have had enough cast members. As for audience, they're both quite popular shows and there's no reason to think that people wouldn't see both productions.

In 2001, LMS did Sound of Music (almost 60 in the cast) and The Players did Les Miserables (well over 60 in the cast). But they were further apart. And Les Mis got heaps of people auditioning that had never done shows before just because it was Les Mis. Granted, the timing could have been better but it is my understanding that the week Encore have got at the theatre was only recently vacated by... The Players! Go figure... Don't know why the Players had it booked as the only show they are doing if the Farndale one at the Earl Arts. Oliver would have been a much bigger cast, but as paulie as said, there's no reason to think they wouldn't have had enough cast members. I heard they had stacks of kids lined up to audition but couldn't get enough adults (not enough men to go around as usual :

It's sad to see that 'Oliver' has been cancelled..The LMS have done fantastic productions in the past..I recently saw 'Blood Brothers'..It was outstanding.. all the cast were great..especially Tessa Dunstan as Mrs Johnstone and Heidi Cooper as Linda. It seems that the 'Sound of Music' has a top cast and production crew..can't wait to see it
