This year Billy Elliot the Musical show hits the headlines in musical race. The best performance of his spectacular actors and extraordinary choreography are well liked by skeptic critics.
Billy Elliot the Musical is a musical based on a 2000 hit movie of the same name. The music is by Sir Elton John, and book and lyrics are by Lee Hall (who wrote the film's screenplay).
The affected musical tells the story of a young boy and his difficult way to fulfill his dream. The tale is very realistic for those young people decided to realize in professional field that is not their strength and mind. This boy lived in a small mining town proves the statement that people might follow their heart and talent.
This Musical opened in London’s west end in 2005 and was nominated for nine Laurence Olivier Awards, winning four including Best New Musical. This year it has won 10 awards “Tony”, the most prestigious theatrical distinction, in New York, including best musical. However, the performance failed to improve the record of 12 awards made by the musical "Producers" in 2001. The lead actor award was shared by three boys. For the first time in Tony history this award has been shared by three remarkable young actors: David Alvarez, Trent Kowalik, and Kiril Kulish. After thanking their families and teachers, Kulish advises all kids who might want to dance not to give up. Trent Kowalik had never danced before starting his featuring in the musical. He learnt ballet especially for his performance. For David Alvarez and Kiril Kulish their participations were very hard exam and they also needed to fulfill their schedule with all day training and practice. Billy Elliot won the Featured Actor prize for Gregory Jbara as Billy’s father, as well as awards for choreography (Peter Darling), set (Ian Macneil), lighting (Rick Fisher), sound (Paul Arditti) and a shared award for best orchestration. The production was also nominated for ten Drama Desk Awards, winning all ten, including Outstanding Musical, and for nine 2008-09 Outer Critics Circle Awards, wining seven, including Outstanding New Broadway Musical, and also received a Special Achievement Award for its three Billys.
All critics were united in their praise for Billy Elliot the Musical. In the UK, The Mail wrote that it was truly electrifying and it has to be seen. The Sunday Express gave it 5 stars and said that all was pure magic. The Daily Telegraph were clear. They announced that it was the greatest British musical they had ever seen. The New York Post said that Billy Eliot will be the best show you will ever see.
Melbourne’s Age claims that 2008 had saved the best for last and Billy Elliot was a near perfect performance with a brilliant production. The Herald Sun maintains that this musical make you think anything is possible if you just believe.
