I can't imagine Henry Higgins ever saying that. I don't think there has been a lack of investigation into the shades inbetween, but I wouldn't refer to them as subtle.
And if Musical Theatre was more like Opera, what would be the point of having the distinction?
I mean, is it me, or is that the worst thought out paragraph of text ever written?
