From the above article:

Musical theatre seems determined to demarcate its two halves: characters speak, then sing, then speak, then sing again. Where is the investigation into the subtle shades in between? (As Henry Higgins might have said, why can't a musical be more like an opera?)

I can't imagine Henry Higgins ever saying that. I don't think there has been a lack of investigation into the shades inbetween, but I wouldn't refer to them as subtle.

And if Musical Theatre was more like Opera, what would be the point of having the distinction?

I mean, is it me, or is that the worst thought out paragraph of text ever written?
