The main cast members have been announced....except for the role of Mary Poppins. Apparently she hasn't been found yet!

Matt Lee will play chimney sweep Bert.
Philip Quast and Marina Prior as Mr and Mrs Banks
Debra Byrne as the Bird Woman
Judi Connelli as the vicious nanny Miss Andrew
Sally-Anne Upton as the housekeeper
Christopher Rickerby as houseboy Robertson Ay.

Auditions for the children's roles will be held early next year.

That would be... interesting. I'm not sure I like her voice for Mary Poppins and I'm not sure she's quite the 'unknown' quantity they were going on about, but they could do worse.

I thought they were searching far and wide for the perfect Mary Poppins - a triple threat who has the Julie Andrews air? If they've settled for Kate Miller-Heidke, it's not only settling, but settling far below expectations... how sad. Kinda like casting Milsey in Wicked despite him failing the dance auditions...

Responding to a call out from Thomas Schumacher and Cameron Mackintosh, budding stars are posting their auditions for the role of Mary Poppins on Youtube.

And Mary Poppins is ........ Verity Hunt-Ballard.

The Australian Mary Poppins has been cast at last: Verity Hunt-Ballard, a commercial theatre regular currently playing Frankie Valli's girlfriend in Jersey Boys.

Hunt-Ballard, who has also worked in productions of The Rocky Horror Show, Oklahoma and South Pacific, as well as dancing on the TV show Countdown, was only cast on the weekend, after flying to London to audition in person for producer Cameron Mackintosh and director Richard Eyre.
