Has anyone heard which Australia Production Company has the rights to produce 'Thoroughly Modern Millie' - I have checked with Gordon Frost Organisation and it is not their production. If anyone has any insight it would be greatly appreciated.

I haven't heard anything about professional rights being bandied about (not that I would), but the U.S. distributer is MTI International, and Hal Leonard Australia are their exclusive agents. So anybody (pro or otherwise) who wants the rights would have to go through them. Their website www.halleonard.com.au/ says "***NEW*** Not presently available for general licencing." I don't know what that means, but I guess you could ask them. James

I'd say maybe TPC grabbed the rights, but I wouldn't have thought that would stop other groups from getting the rights.
My only other suggestion, since I haven't heard anything about TMM, is that maybe the producer who was originally going to bring Wicked has decided on this instead of Miss Saigon?

If TPC grab TMM I will buy my ticket right now down to Melbourne to see it. It's one of my all-time fav musicals

Wow! Isn't it easy to start up a hype. I might have to try it some time. I'll just keep away from making any false Wicked rumours lest I should be horribly axe murdered by Sally. James

At any rate, whoever's doing it, assuming it is being done, of course ;D has to have Amanda Harrison as Millie. I can see that far too well.

You do understand that, last night, when you messaged me that idea, it was right when Broadway at bedtime (94.9FM! free plug!) were playing 'Defying Gravity', don't you? So my mind was too busy being weirded out by the OCR version that I haven't heard in literally months, and inserting Morrible's speech and the guards and a hundred other things, that the words 'thoroughly', 'modern', and 'Millie' were quite foreign to me and my thought process went umm, oh, Millie...Sutton Foster --> Julia Murney --> *giant squeal* I'll just blindly agree with you

Since my first choice for the role is currently playing Dusty I wouldn't have a prob with Amanda playing Millie. I could definitely see her in the role.

Since my first choice for the role is currently playing Dusty Yes, but to put that in perspective, she'd probably be your first choice to play anybody, say... Albin in La Cage Aux Folles. I can see Amanda Doing it. Amanda's big grin would suit Millie to a tea. Or Sharon Millerchip. Or, for that Walt Disney quality I've always seen in the role, Renee Burleigh who played Winnie in Annie Get Your Gun. Or she could at least play Dorothy. And Matt Lee as Jimmy, Rhonda Burchmore as Muzzy, and Queenie Van De Zandt as Mrs. Meers. Now we just need the money. James

I'd love to see Renee do something again! She was gorgeous, but I haven't seen her since! Still, I can't see her as Millie. Maybe Dorothy, though. And re the person currently playing dusty, whoever that might be I'm glad you said that instead of me, James.

Funny enough she's not always my first choice for everything, even though people might think that on the boards - for eg, I think Lisa McCune would be awesome in Wicked but I always bite my tongue over that one on the non-Wicked board (because I usually get slammed for it) *whoops I guess that's now out* Regarding TMM though, ever since the Broadway Revival of the show when they performed at the Tonys I remember mentioning Tamsin as Millie to one of my friends. Still got that email going around where I said that too and that was back in 2002. Hence why I mentioned it. I do think Queenie would be perfect in it, if she's available come production time.

and Queenie Van De Zandt as Mrs. Meers. Oh my god YES yes yes. How hilarious would that be?? And now I've woken up, I can see Amanda as Millie - in Oklahoma, I put this down to jetlag and general insanity, but she kept reminding me of Sutton Foster. It's the wonderfully bright smile, I tell you.

Still, I can't see her as Millie. You're probably right there. ever since the Broadway Revival of the show when they performed at the Tonys I remember mentioning Tamsin as Millie to one of my friends. I'm not sure why but I can't picture Tamsin tap dancing. I'm trying to remember if I've ever seen it. I'm sure she can, but I can't picture it. No comment. James

Oh yeah, but I was so confused at the time. I didn't even work out it was her til after it was over. What's your opinion on Tamsin as Millie? And just where do you suppose I was looking anyway? James
