Hello Everyone
I am posting this advance notice here now so that you are aware of this competition now and can start planning for when the entry forms arrive at the clubs.
The Handa Australian Rotary Acting Challenge.
This email is in way of advance notice for you. There will be a video/cd rom coming out to the schools and amateur theatre companies very soon.
This competition is state wide this year.
Hugh Jackman is our patron and Lisa McCune is advertising the competition on the video.
This new competition is open to all 16, 17, 18 and 19 yr olds.
There are two categories. Dramatic Monologues and Musical Theatre.
Entrants will be asked to perform a 3 minute dramatic monologue from a published script. ( the entire peformance, from walking on to the stage to walking off, must not be longer than 5 minutes)
OR
A 3 minute musical theatre piece from a published script. ( ditto for time)
The Rotary Clubs of Western Australia are going to hold heats for this competition and will come up with one finalist for both sections in WA for the final.
The finals will be held at the Burswood in November.
The judging panel for the finals will include Mr Bevan Lee ( director of drama , seven network, Sydney) and the casting directors from "Home and Away" and "Neighbours"
The winners of both categories will receive $5000 each.
We have been fully funded for this year and we hope that the competition will go nationwide next year.
I would urge you to let as many of our young talented actors know about this competition. Short of being at WAAPA in your final year, it is not often that young people from WA have the chance to be seen by some of the country's top casting agents, without having to fly to Sydney for the opportunity.
Some Drama Studies students will know that they have to do a 3 minute dramatic monologue for their exam and there would be nothing wrong in using the same monologue for this competition. The more practice you have at doing the monologue in front of people, the better you will be in your exam!
I would stress that this competition is certainly open to people who have already left school as well as those still at school now.
If you have any questions , please feel free to contact me on khilton@norbert.wa.edu.au
Thank you
Kerri Hilton
