When six "old friends" get together for a house-warming party, tension quickly grips the group, unravelling the many wicked secrets and passions that only true friends can share - and hide. Through the music of composer-lyricist, Stephen Sondheim, this entertaining cabaret performance explores the range of emotional challenges we each face in our quest to live with, and for, one another.
Arguably the greatest of all the modern writers, this is a round-up of some of Sondheim's best songs from his stage works. The program includes songs from eight of his most acclaimed musicals: A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Merrily We Roll Along, Anyone Can Whistle, Marry Me A Little, Pacific Overtures, Passion, Company, Follies, and a number from the film score for Dick Tracy.
The singers are Emma Fraser, Andrew Glover, Wade Kernot, Miriam Sharrad and Robert Tucker, all performers from the Australian Opera Studio. The show was devised and directed by James Brookes, and the music director is David Wickham.
Concert goers in Perth are welcome. Please be seated by 12.50pm as the performance begins promptly at 1pm local time.
