I'm intending to take up dancing next semester (and make myself even busier than I already am : , but can't decide which type to do. Can anyone suggest what type of dancing would be the most useful for musical theatre? ~Julia

Argh, your turning into one of those perky dancing musical theatre people. Well, I am the queen of being unable to dance, but I'd say jazz or tap. Jazz is more general and if you could only do one I'd say jazz, and most shows don't require tapping. Don't forget this advice is coming from a girl whose last dance experience was ballet as a 5 year old. I talk to the Dance captain of my school occasionally, my only source of dance info.

Don't worry, I just want to start dancing so that I have more chance of getting into shows, and a wider range of shows I can do. And if I ever do get a chance to play Aldonza, I'll have to be able to dance. I won't be one of the ones who knows about 5 different types of dance, though. Yet I was thinking jazz. Thanks ~Julia

Good on you Julia, you'll definitely get parts in more musicals if you can dance...that's my downfall every time. Although I did a term of dancing at the....wait for it, Western Australian Academy of Dance and Drama. Impressive title, yes...but it was actually just a couple of stingy dance areas and a drama room. Of course I don't tell that too many people, so feel honoured. And all dancers aren't evil, don't worry.
