Babirra's committee (that's the company I'm doing Les Mis with) have been trying to think of a musical to do for May 2004. Does anyone have any suggestions? It's a family company, so I don't think the president would agree to anything like Cabaret or Chicago, but most other things would be acceptable, I think.
These are the shows that have been done in the last couple of years: 2000 Kismet / The New Moon 2001 Maid of The Mountain / Camelot 2002 Kiss me Kate / Gondoliers

You could always do Jekyll and Hyde! *wink wink, nudge nudge* Hmmm...probably a bit dark though, and all those murders. Okay...maybe not. Sound of Music could be quite cute...there would be a bit of a battle for the part of Maria. How about Into the Woods? I don't know anything about it so it might be completely wrong but it sounds like it has alot of parts to go around rather than just a couple of leads, like Les Miserables. I'll have a think...if your company did Les Miserables it could probably pull off any show...other than perhaps Phantom or Miss Saigon (the helicopter and all)

I love the idea of Into the Woods. I've been considering suggesting that myself. There have been people suggesting Carousel, too, which would be a really good one to do. I'd love to do Jekyll and Hyde or Scarlet Pimpernel, but I don't think they'd agree to either of those so soon after Les Mis. They wouldn't want to be typecast into that style.
Sound of Music would be good, but it's only just been done by another really close company, so it might not go down too well.

Yeah, good point about Jekyll and Hyde + Scarlet Pimpernel...people will start calling you the depressed/goth theatre club. Oooh, Carousel would be a good one...didn't think of that. And an amaetur theatre company did My Fair Lady over here which was very good, but once again there aren't many...well, any female roles other than Eliza which is a bit unequal. JCS would be a great one to do as a theatre company, but the chances of getting the right of ALW *grumbles about him being an arrogant -----* But I reckon Into the Woods, (cause then you also have a better chance at getting a lead) or Carousel.

Hmm.. you could suggest Fame. Has a lot of leads and can be done really well by amateur companies. You need a good choreographer, though.

They've made up their minds. Next year's May musical is going to be Guys and Dolls. That will be followed by Pirates of Penzance, and then something for which they have "a phantom of an idea", and then Tarantara.
Guys and Dolls has a fair amount of dancing, doesn't it?

I'm so unfamiliar with those, lol. I was looking around on the web before when I saw this topic and you seem to be quite near me. How's chorus/extra work go in your joint? Can anyone just turn up or is every last part auditioned for?

You should give it a try. ~Julia

That's what I thought and what i did! In 2001 I was in Les Miserables, then the following year I was in "Anything Goes", quickly followed by "Godspell" - 3 great but contrasting shows. Buff
