Okay, yes, I've resisted this for ages, but it had to come up sooner or later. Who's been keeping track of the competition, and what have they been thinking?
I've only seen the last couple of weeks, and Paulini was my favourite by far, so I was annoyed she was voted out, but Shannon won me over when he sang New York New York *g*
Open discussion now!

I've only started watching in the last couple of weeks, but my best friend has been watching (and voting!) since the beginning. Yep - Paulini was the pick of the last four. I saw the "swing/big band" show and in order of preference from that show only was: 1. Paulini 2. Guy 3. Shannon 4. Cosima My friend said Paulini has been at the level the whole time while other have good and bad shows/songs. I caught the end of the show last night when Cosima quit because of her voice. When they showed the clips and had a voice over, I was blown away by the difference. You can really hear that her voice is shot. Guy to win. Paulini was robbed. Buff

Yeah, I hadn't heard Cosima before a few weeks ago, and I was really wondering how she'd gotten that far, because her voice really didn't sound healthy.
Paulini really didn't deserve to be voted out, though. Not that she didn't get far enough that, with her voice, she shouldn't be able to go far if she so decides.

Yes, I'm an idol fan - it's true. I loved Paulini - brilliant voice!! Sad that she left The big band week - I disagree with you Buff. My preferences went: 1. Paulini 2. Shannon 3. Cosima 4. Guy (The first 3 were all so close that week, but Guy really wasn't up to his usual standard - it's obviously not his thing). Out of the last 3 I was going for Cosima - she was my absolute fav out of them - I was sqinting and feeling her pain when she was singing - you could tell she was about to go for her big notes and she just stopped singing. It's sad, but it was noble dropping out. Out of Shannon and Guy, Guy is far and away the best performer. If Shannon wins, I will have lost all faith in the Australian public.

Oh man I'm glad this thread is open, thanks Julia! I thought I was such a teeny bopper by following it! I agree with the choice of Paulini, she had an absolutely fantastic voice and I wanted her to win. *grrr* Stupid ignorant Australian public. But I hope Guy wins now, he really does has a fantastic voice. And he's so funny, lol, trying to grab a look at the names on the card for Monday's eviction. Did anyone else practically bawl when he sang "Climb every mountain"? I never would have picked him singing something like that, it's not the song that comes to mind when I think 60's, but the arrangment was amazing and he sang it so well! Especially that note at the end, for a sec I didn't think he was going to go for it, but it came out perfectly. And the sight of Marcia jumping up and down and randomly yelling, "Yes" was pretty amusing too!

I didn't realise that until they mentioned it on the show I've heard that Guy is in two minds about winning, the main reason being that because of the contract they had to sign it would prevent him from singing at his church. I found out last night a friend of mine who lives in Melbourne (and works with my in-laws) has a son who is a friend of Guy, which is where this info came from. Buff

I'm very tempted to say that Paulini would be the one with the most intelligent fanbase, which is a bit of a problem in two ways; 1. Intelligent fanbases tend to be smaller than the rabid teen masses 2. Intelligent fans are often too smart to/ not smart enough to waste all their money voting for teenybopper shows ~Julia

Would he have even thought of the song if Christina Aguilara hadn't done it recently? I didn't realise that until they mentioned it on the show Okay, that definitely explains alot. I didn't actually hear that on the show, but then again I only watched Guy's performance. Guy just lost some originality points from me...although he is still definitely my fave! And your right Julia, the people who recognise actual talent, (i.e. Paulini and Guy) aren't the ones who vote. It's the crazy, 'Shannon is so hot and I'm going to waste $50 in voting for him 100 times!" people. I'm not surprised she didn't get through on that basis now, but 'Dicko' said his company would be offering contracts to several of the 12 finalists. Maybe she'll be one of them...

Actually, I've had the impression that Guy is the one with the biggest fanbase. He certainly seems to be quite a crowd-pleaser, and I daresay he's had the votes to match that.

That is probably true, he's got the trade mark fro and the footage of his hometown was pretty amazing, it was like a Guy mob. I would have thought the girls would go after Shannon, (although most of them have.) But Guy's got a bit of a fan base with the ladies as well apparently. I've decided I'm going to vote after the grand finale, a whole 60 cents I'm going to waste. But my friend did and apparently Guy says something like, "Thanks for voting for me, I love you!" in his recorded message, which is damn cool! I think I'm being sucked in....

OK, I think Guy is more talented than Shannon. But if Guy wins, he's probably going to churn out crap like that Beyonce song. Like GOD - what was that? If you've got a voice USE IT - don't sing stupid songs that are just talking with slight voice modulation!! Jeesh!
We don't need another one of them - I think Shannon would produce something a bit different than the mainstream R&B/hip hop crap....
I dunno..... better voice and terrible songs... or worse voice and good songs...

Yeah, Guy definitely didn't perform to his best on Monday night. And I agree Hannah, "Crazy in Love' was NOT a good song choice...and neither was that jacket! Urgh! Shannon picked a fantastic song in 'Working man', I mean it suited him perfectly. He performed it so well, but I'm still voting for Guy. Correction, I've already voted for Guy. Has anyone else rung? Guy told me he loved me!! *giggles like a stereotypical american* Yes, me and the rest of the country.

Obviously, the thinking is that it's mainly females who ring and vote Hehehe, or very big fans of Queer Eye. Your right Buff, for every guy he pushes away with the 'I love you' comment, he'll get 20 more votes from obsessed female fans. I'd be marketing to the ladies as well, if I was a guy of course.

[quote author=Buff I've heard that Guy is in two minds about winning, the main reason being that because of the contract they had to sign it would prevent him from singing at his church. I found out last night a friend of mine who lives in Melbourne (and works with my in-laws) has a son who is a friend of Guy, which is where this info came from. Buff [/quote] Hey Buff, I know the guy you are talking about! haha! He's the coolest! Now after just spending a week at Planet Shakers, (run by Paradise life centre, Guy Sebastians church), I've got the lowdown on Guy's contract. (Also helps that two Salvo's from Adelaide are really good mates of his, he sang at their wedding, and they filled us in on the goss!)He was really worried about not being able to sing at his church and Planet Shakers etc.... BUT he got it written into his contract that he would be able to perform at his church, but that they can't use him for any marketing stuff (ie. They wouldn't be able to use him to sell their cd's - Planet Shakers starring Guy Sebastian etc.) not that they would! He was in Adelaide for the conference, but did not come at all, because it would be a really bad idea for him to go... it would become a conference about Guy and not about God which was what it was supposed to be about! So he didn't come, but he was mentioned a lot, and love and well-wishes were sent from all of us to him through his family! What a man! Sorry... BIG Guy fan here! Luv Sare xx
