I figured I may as well be sensible and post this here.. *g* Now, we know I want to do musical theatre next year, and WAAPA is my first choice because, well, it's WAAPA... Am having a few concerns with my singing teacher who says that WAAPA don't like him. Or his students. Or something. We do have a really good more classical-based music school here, but I don't want to switch just because I'm worried. *g* Those of you who've been to/go to/know people who've been to/know people who go to WAAPA, what sort of thing are they looking for? What type of voice, what type of shows, etc? Can you give me any idea? If I'm really going to do this I want to give myself the best chance possible. Eep.

Hi there!
I graduated last year so I will try and answer as much as poss...
The audition consists of singing, acting and ( in the call backs ) dancing. Try to be as prepared as possible in these areas. They honestly don't look for a specific type (besides talented of course!) so I wouldn't worry about that. Just be as prepared as possible. That comment your singing teacher made is quite odd though. I get on quite well with the staff (who are ultimately the audition panel) and who your singing teacher is would not be an issue at all. It's solely based on your audition. Obviously experience is important but again, they won't be basing your acceptance into the course on what specific shows you've done.
Most people's downfall is dancing so if I can give you any advice for something to work on between now and the end of the year, it's dancing! That's if the other two areas are all cool. Oh, and choice of song is very important. There are songs that get done, like, every year several times. Avoid those songs at all costs!! You cvould guess what they would be....Les Mis, Chorus Line the usual ones.
Hope I have been some sort of help. If there's anything else, just fire away! Good Luck and it's a fantastic course. I have nothing but great things to say about it....
soph
PS - Matt? Is that you? From 1st year? It's me Soph, Glaston's girlfriend! How's it all going mate?

See, I am and reading the posts. My sister's name is Erica, she's in first year but Classical Music. So you probably haven't run into her, and it's probably a slightly different audition process. I know she wouldn't have gotten in if there was any singing involved. :S Do either of you know Vincent Hooper? He's first year music theatre, at the moment.

Hi Soph.. yeah its me... Matt from first year.
Going really well.. although rediculously busy.. cause we are doing the PCEC thing (conference centre) us firsts years are basically rehearsing when ever we normally have breaks and going to all our normal classes as well. Kinda harsh, but Im sure it only gets worse. Congrats on High Society... I saw it while I was home and loved it, new a few ppl in it too... Tanya Mitford, Emma Langridge and Elise Dickonson, I stuck around and saw Elise and Tan after the show, but didnt run into you. What are u up to know??
Tinechowren, Yeah.. he is in my year! He's cool

Thanks soph and everyone else for help. Soph, my singing teacher (well, old singing teacher now) doesn't have a very good reputation. I think it was less reputation with WAAPA though, and more than his students haven't had much training. Needless to say, I figured that out and have now changed schools. My new teacher is amazing so I'm happy! I suppose I should go back to dance classes then! *g*

Hey Matt.... Thought it was you! Yes heard all about PCEC. I'm getting a blow by blow account of rehearsals from Glaston on the phone every night. Heard it's moving pretty slowly. 5 hours on the Time Warp...I mean what's that about!!?? All I can say is Get used to it!! With shows at WAAPA the results are always great but the process can be like watching grass grow at times....just hang in there though! It'll be holidays in no time! It's a bugger I didn't catch you after HS! I tend to sneak out straight after...it was great doing a show with those guys. Really lovely people. How do you know them? At the mo I'm doing a profit share (which ultimatley means unpaid...!) production of Into the Woods and doing a show called Knock Knock Who's There? for schools around Sydney. Now is it a rumour or is your girlfriend doing that too? I could have my wires completley crossed here....if so, in Sydney or Melbs? Anyway, glad everything over there is going well for you and the next time you see Glaston, give him a big kiss for me...actually maybe a firm handshake would be better.... lana - Yep, get back to the dancing lessons! It's usually most people's downfall! If there are any other questions though, don't hesitate to ask...and good luck with your preparations! soph xoxo

Hi Soph,
Sorry I've taken so long to reply, PCEC is all underway as Im sure u've heard, and apart from way too much free wine at the opening Gala, is going swimingly.
Meg is doing the same show as you, in Melbourne, she seems to be loving it. How's it all going for you?
Hope your well
Matt
