Okay, now I'm sure some of you know this already, but I'm not a huge fan of either Colm Wilkinson or Michael Crawford. MC has a good voice, yes, and he's pleasant to listen to, but I don't see what the hype's about. As for Colm, I can't stand his voice in most things except for a couple of of songs I've heard. I just don't like the style.
Now, at musicals.net, I'd be blasted for saying that. So I thought I'd come here and ask you lot for your opinions on the two.

I voted for liking MC, surprise surprise. Phantom is my ultimately favorite musical, there are a few that come close but Phantom is number one. And of course, like pretty much every other phantom phan, I was introduced to the musical by the OLC. There are a few songs on Michael's other CD's which I'm not a fan of, and he can sometimes be nasal, but I find his voice just fits Phantom perfectly. Not to say that he is the only good Phantom, there are plenty of others (including Warlow) that have done the role extremely well, but having listened to ALOT of recordings, (and I know the recording isn't the same as live) and I think he is the best Phantom I've heard. But I definitely agree about Colm Wilkinson....argh!! Considering how many people would love to make a living by singing, especially on stage...how did the become such a big name in musical theatre? How?! I know some people like him...and apologies if I've offended! And there is no way we could have this discussion logically and without screaming and fighting if we were at musicals.net for sure! *sigh* Thank god for maturity.

I voted "I like both". I don't love either of their voices passionately, but both are OK. Colm when he was a few years young was excellent, but it sounds like he is getting tired. I also wonder whether he is also getting bored of doing Valjean. All the concerts/guest apprearances must get tiring. I only really listened to MC about a month ago. I was driving my brother's in-law's car and they had a MC CD so I played it. It wasn't as bad as I was expecting. Granted, he's no Anthony Warlow, but who else is. It wasn't so good that I wanted to rush out and buy it but if someone gave it to me I would play it every now and then. Buff
