Just had to drop this into the board.
Sydney Theatre Company are debuting two productions at the new Sydney Theatre (aka Walsh Bay) during the 2004 Sydney Festival.
The productions will be Harbour and The Republic of Myopia both featuring the same cast. One is a play the other is a musical.
The reason I mention this is the amazing cast they have in this ensemble.
It features Mitchell Butel, Peter Carroll, Tamsin Carroll, Helen Dallimore, Drew Forsythe (who co-wrote TRoM), Simon Gleeson, Melissa Jaffer, Genevieve Lemon and William Zappa.
Harbour will be directed by Robyn Nevin whilst TRoM will be directed by Jonathan Biggins (choreographer -> Ross Coleman).

Republic of Myopia and Harbour are now in rehearsals. I was at the Australian Writers Muster today and heard Katherine Thomson talk about Harbour - it sounds like a very interesting play indeed - they only had a 3 week rehearsal time because of the cast being used in both RoM and Harbour. Also look for those performers who don't have a major part in Harbour to have one in Republic of Myopia and vice-versa - except for Peter Carroll who has the lead in both

I went to the subscriber briefing for The Republic of Myopia / Harbour tonight - 3/4 of the cast were there. Basically the gist of it is as follows: - They will be opening the new Sydney Theatre at Walsh Bay.
- Peter Carroll will be the lead in both, while the other 9 members of the ensemble will have significant roles in either one or the other productions (not both).
- Republic of Myopia sounds like an absolute hoot - think Marx Bros meets the movie Dave.
- Anyone who went to Hats Off in Sydney and heard Tamsin sing Poverty will have had their first taste of the RoM - she's playing the daughter of the President (as Jonathan Biggins said - father and daughter in real life and on stage)
- Republic of Myopia and Harbour seem like they will be two good pieces that are completely different to each other.
- Harbour is weighing in at 2 hr 40 mins with interval; Republic of Myopia is 2 hr 30 mins with interval.
The big one.....This week the ensemble are going into the studio to do the recording of the musical so look for it to be released either end of the year / beginning of next year. ***** I know more about Harbour because I went to the Australian Writers' Muster but I'm not allowed to say anything Nadine
