The highlight on the Melbourne Theatre Company schedule is the return to the musicals - damn both STC and MTC have musicals next year *sigh* - Lisa McCune returns to the MTC for the first time since Into the Woods in 1998. Anyway MTC got the rights to one of the hottest Broadway shows "Urinetown". www.theage.com.au/articles/2003/09/30/1064819913689.htmlwww.theage.com.au/articles/2003/09/30/1064819913686.htmlCourtesy of the above The Age article: Urinetown, the Musical has been showing on Broadway for three years, where it has won numerous prizes, including two Tony Awards. MTC director Simon Phillips says the play's title is part of its spoof of big-city greed and corruption in the middle of a drought. McCune (who is due to give birth to her second child this week) plays the rebellious daughter of a magnate who has the monopoly of all privatised toilets in a city where private urination has been banned. "You have to pay to pee at the end of the day," Phillips says. "It is a satire of an ecological disaster, as well as a send-up of other musicals." Others in the cast are Shane Bourne, Rhonda Burchmore and Christen O'Leary.

You say STC has a musical next year. Do you know what it is? And it looks like this is something I'm going to have to see, or else some of my friends just might murder me ~Julia

You say STC has a musical next year. Do you know what it is? If you see if the STC schedule thread it mentions it. "The Republic of Myopia" is a musical which imo sounds hilarious - it'll be making its world premiere during the Sydney Festival in January and stars an unbelievable cast including Mitchell Butel, Melissa Jaffer, Genevieve Lemon, William Zappa and the two Carrolls That's the cast they have listed in the brochure so fingers crossed they stay with it - Peter, William and Genevieve are pretty much the confirmed ones. The same cast will also be performing in Harbour, which is an Australian play also making its world premiere during the Sydney Festival. Nadine
