Jason Robert Brown's smash hit musical, The Last Five Years, will play at Sydney's SBW Stables Theatre in February.

The show will be produced by the same company that presented the show in Melbourne last year.

The show, which features just two cast members, Tim Wright and Amanda Levy, has been widely acclaimed across the world and is expected to have a sell-out run in Sydney.

OMG Amanda Levy is BRILLIANT! She is SOOOO good!

She used to live with my former singing teacher, and performed in his musical "Prodigal Son", and she's SUCH a brilliant performer! And a heck of a nice girl!

I'm SOOO flying to Sydney to see it!!!

Yeah I saw Prodigal Son three times when it was open the first time in Melbourne, and then twice in its second run! It was truly BRILLIANT!

As for the NY version, I've read the script, it's not overly different to the show they did here, and I heard some AMAZING reviews of it whilst I was in New York last year. I was so proud to say "I KNOW THOSE GUYS!" They should be so proud of themselves!

Here's a little more info on the Sydney production, from broadwayaustralia.com

Melbourne audiences were wowed by it last year, and now it is Sydney’s turn to experience the power of The Last Five Years, one of the most emotion driven musicals in history.

To be presented at the intimate SBW Stables Theatre in Kings Cross, The Last Five Years is a one-act musical penned by Jason Robert Brown, who also wrote the smash hit New York revue, Songs For A New World, which ironically will also receive its Sydney debut this year.

The Last Five Years charts the rise and fall of ‘nice Jewish boy’ Jamie - a young novelist who goes from unknown student to best selling author with a momentum that doesn’t match his age; and Cathy - an aspiring musical theatre star who moves from the Mid-West to Manhattan to ‘make it big’.

In this very intimate, text based musical, Jason Robert Brown exposes pivotal moments in their lives as Cathy begins her story at the end of their relationship, working her way back, and Jamie tells his side of the story, working forward from the day they met. Funny and uplifting, the show captures some of the most heartbreaking and universally felt moments of modern romance.

The Last Five Years received seven Drama Desk nominations, winning Best Music, Best Lyrics and both the Drama Desk and New York Drama Critic’s Circle Awards for Best New Musical. Other awards and nominations include the 2002 Kleban Award for lyrics, the Outer Critics Circle nomination for Outstanding Off-Broadway Musical and two Lucille Lortel Award nominations including Outstanding Musical.

Jason Robert Brown is the Tony Award winning composer and lyricist of Parade, a musical directed by Hal Prince and produced on Broadway in 1998. Directed by Dean Bryant (Green Room Award winning writer of Prodigal Son), The Last Five Years brings together two of Australia’s brightest young music theatre stars in Anthony Harkin (Cabaret, A Month in the Country STC) and Amanda Levy (Two time Green Room Award Nominee).

Urgh. I would love to see L5Y, but of course it would play the one and only time I'm overseas! I just checked and it closes a week before I get back to Syd. Such a pain!

I really enjoyed the cast recording, very well written. I actually didnt know it was going to be on here 'til I found this board. Even so, it sux that I won't see it!

But as a consolation, I get to see Norbert in Wicked.. I guess that'll *have* to do.
