Sources close to Disney confirm the production of 'The Little Mermaid' stage musical. 45 minutes of new music has been orchestrated by Alan Menken to accompany the underwater sequences, all set to dance. Dialogue will feature only in above-water scenes.
It will open in LA, before moving to NYC.

This sounds very interesting, and it sounds like it could turn out very well indeed. I'm going to be very curious to hear how it goes. It has so much potential as far as lighting and costumes go.

I'm rather glad about it because it gives more of a chance for children to cultivate an interest in theatre in an early age. If we're past the time of the big Disney movie musicals, then this is just as good

When I was in NY they were talking about the auditions for The Little Mermaid. I'm hoping as they've closed AIDA that it'll be on by the time I get there again in May, so if it is I'll let you know what I thought of it! If I can't get tickets, I'll go to the NY City Library and watch it on video.... yeppers you heard correctly they record different musicals on Broadway and you can watch them at the library! Can you cope?!? I watched The Last Five Years last time I was there and it was FABULOUS!

Wow, you actually got it...awesome! I heard about the NYC library because people wanted to obtain POTO with MC in it but apparenly you had to prove you had a legitimate reason to need to see the tapes. Is probably a different library/section, that or I'm totally confuzzled.

Little Mermaid sounds fantastic, too bad it won't be here for awhile.

We'll need detailed reviews if you get a chance to see it!!

No I didn't see TLFY Julia! That sucks that I missed it! Spewing!!! I love that show! IT's up there with my faves! Video is all I've seen though, but I LOVE the soundtrack...listen to it ALL the time...with Manley Pope (don't go there girls we may never stop!!!!!)

Eowyn, I got to see it because I have connections! I knew about the rules, but convinced them that I was from Australia studying musical theatre and was staying with students from AMDA - which was so not entirely a lie - I was staying with students from AMDA! Anyway the Librarian let me watch it in the multi-media room! It was AWESOME!

You know what though, I was thinking....if they already have these videos, why don't they sell them after the production has closed and make money for the industry? I mean honestly, you'd make a killing if you produced musical theatre live performance videos. I'd buy nearly every show myself!!!! What do you guys think?
