Debbie Does Dallas - The Musical
Presented by Three Amigos Productions
Australian Premiere
Yes, we're serious. Debbie Does Dallas - The Musical is a legitimate musical version of the 1978 U.S. cult porn film of the same name.
"Shamelessly silly, shrewdly self-aware and proud of being naughty. Great Fun!" The New York Times
"A scream! A saucy, tongue-in-cheek romp". The New Yorker
"Racy and raucous, a light-hearted, fast-paced thoroughly engaging and hilarious send-up". NY Daily News
Unleashed at the 2001 New York International Fringe Festival, The Musical claimed its own cult status in a highly successful 2002 Off Broadway season.
A tongue-in-cheek spoof of the classic 70's adult flick starring Bambi Woods, this Australian premiere captures the frivolity of the original film, while reinforcing the story with humour, emotion and more than a hint of irony.
All-American small town girl, Debbie Benton, realises a childhood dream when accepted as a Texas Cowgirl Cheerleader. But alas! Debbie doesn't have the fare to get to Dallas! Debbie and her girlfriends form Teen Services, an innocent money-making venture to fund her trip.
The girls quickly discover that minimum wage jobs simply don't deliver but 'little favours' are substantially more lucrative. Through sex, sweat and tears they raise the fare while enduring small sacrifices - their innocence, naiveté and, "oh, what the hell!" virginity.
Starring Lisa Adam (Man of La Mancha) as our homegrown Debbie, and Ben Steel (Home & Away) as Mr Hardwick, The Musical features smoulderingly original musical numbers including Small Town Girl, Ten Dollars Closer, The Dildo Rag and I Wanna do Debbie.
"Debbie is a rollercoaster of American cheesiness, 70's tan lines and old porn dialogues", said Producer, Director Peter Ross. "The script is closely derived from the original film and gives us room to parody the content and presentation of adult films. The Musical actually redefines the original film material through a contemporary Australian perspective".
Three Amigos Productions brings this coming of age story to the stage with wit, sparkling talent and … some clothing.
