Hey, I saw the matinee on Sat and yes, the show was brilliant. Don't completely agree with the Australian review on some points however. I thought the reviewer was a bit harsh towards Judi Connelli for instance. She was AMAZING. Yes, she gives a pretty melodramatic performance but you can't help but love her for it. That voice wow! Yes, agreed Rachael Beck was very good and Anne Wood is so classy - "The Winner Takes It All" was a definite highlight for me. I think she's a wonderful actress. I think Sharon Millerchip deserves a huge rap. Her rendition of "If they Could See Me Now" was dynamite and her sultry "Someone To Watch Over Me" was gloriously sung. "A Boy Like that" was a powerhouse moment with Marina. Very versatile and gorgeous. Ronda Burchmore was all tits and teeth and one of her frocks even got it's own applause! Loved her "Don't Rain on my Parade". Marina Prior was sublime even though her pitch can be a little off occasionally, there is no doubt that she has STAR quality. You can't take your eyes off her. Thought Geraldine had some good moments but she tends to screech too much for my taste. The audience were on their feet in seconds after the finale, and that was a matinee!! I loved the show. Each woman was so individual so I want to resist comparing them - I loved them all.

This is a pretty sad line up of names Burchmore, Turner,Conelli? Ugh. They hardly match up with the musical talents we used to have in this country such as Jill Perryman, Toni Lamond and Gloria Dawn. We certainly aren't producing performers like those anymore.
And how about Marina Prior in the upcoming Production Company presentation of Annie Get Your Gun? Surely this is miscasting at its worst. What has happened to our standards in this country?

Just thought I would throw my 2 cents worth in... I saw the final show on saturday night and thought it was a good fun show. A few tiny microphone glitches but they were soon forgotten! Audience was a little slow...albeit a few music theatre buffs...and everyone up the back. Come on people get on your feet! Song selection was better than expected however there were the standards which if they didn't have I suppose no-one would have come! It was great to hear some different little things such as songs from Boys From Syracuse, City of Angels and Miss Saigon. And as for Leading Ladies...Marina Prior, Anne Wood, Rhonda Burchmore and Rachel Beck proved that they deserved the title. If Judi Connelli could make up her mind if she wanted to sing opera or music theatre she too could have the same status. Sharon was super tired and croaked through most of her songs and Geraldine should have just gone home. A tough call to say that we don't produce any leading lady status in musical theatre now...

Now, now, you have quite enough happening in the next year Although you might still be surprised. We certainly didn't expect it to be appearing in Melbourne.

Was at the launch of Australian Leading Ladies at Her Majesty's today. From what they were saying it sounds like they will take it to sydney if it goes well in Melbourne.
