Some artists manage to hold out their entire careers. Some last a few years. Eddie Perfect lasted about five minutes.
Eddie’s debut solo show “Angry Eddie”, a left-wing rant on politics, sex, drugs, war, apathy and juice bars, was an underground hit at the 2004 Melbourne Comedy Festival. Far from maintaining his rage, Eddie raked in the dough, bought some new ugg-boots, a home espresso machine, and is now looking for a tax break. Who knew sticking up for the little guy could prove so lucrative?
“Part stand-up comedian, part jazz singer, part rocker and, at times, part Quentin Tarantino” - The Age
Eddie’s anger, like his social conscious, was about as credible as Paris Hilton’s sister’s new hand-bag line…and far less functional. His next performance, “Transcending Anger; Towards Something More Marketable”, reflects the discovery that there are things more important than anger, activism, equality, compassion, social awareness, fairness and peace.
Things like bitches and money
“...The voice of a matinee idol, the looks of a post-punk rocker and, if a chain-saw could talk, it’s name would be Perfect” - The Herald-Sun
If you caught Eddie performing on ABC TV’s “Stand-Up”, or in either “Angry Eddie” or “Cliff Hanger; Catch A Falling Star” during the 2004 Melbourne Comedy Festival, then “Transcending Anger; Towards Something More Marketable” will be a welcome relief.
It’s a show about growing up…
It’s about following in the footsteps of ex-left-wing heroes like Peter Garrett…
It’s about realizing that Anti-Americanism is Un-Australian…
It’s about the election(s)… It’s about wanting to be on Bert… And once again, it’s about bitches and money…
“Eddie Perfect lives up to his name” The Age
“Transcending Anger; Towards Something More Marketable” features those favourite songs; “The Juice Bar Girl”, “John Howard’s Bitches”, “Guantanamo Bay” and “Poor Little Middle Class Me” interwoven with new songs like “Charlie The Right-Wing Conservative Christian And Me” and “The Day Reagan Died”. Backed by a trio of Melbourne’s finest musicians, including the rhythm freak Nick Karasavvidis, “Transcending Anger” will be a night of greed, ego and free drugs the whole family can enjoy.
