How am I supposed to know where I'll be in May? Meh.
Maybe I'll have to try and see it elsewhere..
And I know you already mentioned it Julia, but their advertising wins at life.

And yes, it seems that it'll be released on DVD in ABC shops, as a friend of mine was there the other night and said they were filming. Thank goodness for that. That means I will get to see the show! Buff

Now, here's some interesting news. The role of the Pirate King in the Adelaide run will be played by....
*drum roll*
David Campbell
That's right, David will be taking over from Anthony just for those couple of weeks, due to other commitments Anthony has. Now to keep an ear to the ground to find out what these other commitments are, as rumour suggests they are a performance of some kind.

I think that looks terrible. Why (oh god why?!) does a wonderful actor need to copy a recent blockbuster performance - obviously - and be dressed in the same costume purely cause they're both pirates?! Why did they need Warlow?! They should have just got a Johnny Depp impersonator up there.
I thought it was just a bad joke when the poster came out, but no - they have actually tried to make Warlow into Depp.
So bad. So bad beyond words. So disappointing.

If I remember correctly, I believe that was Warlow's choice. And it isn't based solely on Depp, but rather a combination of favourite pirates. One of Warlow's talents is impersonation, and I don't see why he shouldn't use that, especially since he always puts plenty of himself even into impersonations. It isn't a strict carbon copy. I don't think he'd ever do that. And I am looking forward to it. Besides, it sells tickets. The season is just about sold out from what I've heard, and theatre audiences can be a tough nut to crack. If it sells tickets without betraying the text, I don't see a problem with it.
And besides, that isn't what I was referring to. It's colourful. It's lively. I heard they've taken a storybook approach to it, and it looks as though it works.

Mmm... I take your point. (And I agree about the livliness.)
But I think the same costume shouldn't have been used - it says "I am playing Johnny Depp from the Pirates of the Caribbean movies". Sure, take inspiration, even impersonate at times, but why would I go and watch Warlow impersonate Depp when the films are at my fingertips (and I'm sure Depp does a better Depp than Warlow).
If you're going to impersonate an icon, you need to give it time. The pirates movies are still being released.
Sure, it sells tickets, but I guess they could have sold those tickets just as easily with a random unknown impersonating Depp if people are coming to see a live "Pirates of the Caribbean". I just think Warlow is limiting himself as an artist - taking the easy route I guess - by copying a current figure and being forced (I assume, by the director) to use that to cash in on the pirates success.

It's showing on ABC TV this coming Saturday (9/12/06) at 9:25pm. The TV guide I've got still says it's the Jon English/Simon Gallagher version! I've just checked the ABC TV website and they've got it right, at least! Buff

Oh brilliant. Anyone else in Melbourne seen it yet? For the next couple of days Dennis Olsen is playing Major-General Stanley as Reg Livermore is unwell and Dennis already knows the blocking from Adelaide, so they flew him in.
