Jeff Wayne's Musical Version of The War of The Worlds, Live on Stage! is set to land in arenas around Australia in September 2007.

This staged musical and multimedia production of the classic HG Wells 1898 science fiction story is a once-in-a-lifetime epic extravaganza, out of this world entertainment, unlike anything to have hit these shores before.

After selling out arenas in the UK in 2006, playing to 100,000 people across England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales, Australians will now have the opportunity to witness one of the world's most famous and best-selling recordings of all time, Jeff Wayne's Musical Version of The War of The Worlds, live in a thrilling theatrical and multimedia spectacle, with a brilliant cast, including, 23 years after his death, one of the world's greatest actors, Richard Burton, at the helm "in sight and sound" as George Herbert, The Journalist.

This acclaimed musical event will feature Jeff Wayne conducting the 10-member Black Smoke Band, plus a 40-piece String Orchestra.

The stellar cast, from England, includes Justin Hayward and Chris Thompson, both re-creating their roles from the original album and the recent sell-out UK tour. They will be joined on-stage by Australia's three-time MTV Best Male Artist of The Year Shannon Noll, plus the wonderful talents of Rachael Beck and Michael Falzon.

Set in HG Wells Victorian England, Jeff Wayne's Musical Version of The War of The Worlds brilliantly portrays the tale of Martians invading Earth and their terrifying trail of destruction.

(Yes, I know. I've been meaning to post about this for at least a week, but life's been insane in my direction)

Prices are about the main reason I hate arena productions. At least having only one performance on a Frinight my decision is made for me, as I'll be working. Very convenient.

wow that is expensive!! I just feel really exploited when I go to an arena "spectacular". They pretend that it's theatre but it just doesn't engage me on any kind of intimate level. It's a blatent money making exersize as far as I can see. You end up watching most of the show on the screen anyway so it's a bit like going to a really expensive movie session with great sound. Falzon has a fab voice and Rachel Beck is ok but I won't be there. The fact that Shannon Noll is on the bill says a lot about where they're aiming (although he seems like a very decent guy don't get me wrong). Maybe I'm just not a big enough fan of War of the worlds.
