To coincide with Kookaburra’s production of Company, Stephen Sondheim, the composer of Company, will be traveling to Australia for the first time in 35 years to be part of Kookaburra’s opening week activities.

An Audience With Stephen Sondheim will be a once in a life time opportunity for people to be present as Sondheim is interviewed about his life and catalogue of musical theatre.

Stephen Sondheim is widely seen as his generation's leading writer of the stage musical. Described by Frank Rich in the The New York Times as "the greatest and perhaps best-known artist in the American musical theater," he is one of the few people to win an Academy Award, multiple Tony Awards (seven, more than any other composer), multiple Grammy Awards, and a Pulitzer Prize. His most famous scores include (as composer/lyricist) A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Company, A Little Night Music, Follies, Sweeney Todd, Into the Woods, Sunday in the Park with George, and Assassins, as well as just the lyrics for West Side Story and Gypsy.

This isn't the first time Sondheim has done this sort of thing in Sydney. In the late 70's (?) he came over with Alan Jay Lerner and did workshops and a symposium on musical theatre with writers etc. Does anyone else remember this?

Unfortunately, no. I was born in the late 70s, and I get the impression from a lot of posts that I'm of above average age around here.
