Hedwig and the Angry Inch

I saw this production last night in Sydney, and I cannot recommend more strongly that everyone see it when it transfers to melbourne.

It is the best piece of music theatre I think I have ever seen on the stage in this country. In fact, and I can be unfairly critical sometimes...like all of us...but I sat there and thought "this is flawless". Its hilarious and moving and well paced and beautifully directed and entertaining and the performances from iOTA and Blazey Best are among the best you will see. And its about a transexual rock singer! And for those of us that love musicals, it is unmissable. The script, acting and singing is revolutionary and a major step forward in broadening the nations views on musicals. The entire audience- (which was a sold out one)- got to their feet immediately for a standing ovation. It will go down in our music theatre history, I believe.

I even think Yonkers might like it.

I am a fan of this musical, however I am concerned that it starts in just a couple of weeks and there has been little if any publicity and it is playing in a theatre that seats close to 1,000 people. As of last week there weren't even flyers at the Athenaeum.

word of mouth and reviews will spread like wildfire after opening night and no publicity wont be a problem. there was barely any here and it all sold out after opening night.
