Do theatres and shows shut down over Christmas and New Years? My wife and I want to see "The Lion King" in Sydney either late December (after Christmas) or earlier January. Our plan is to fly to Melbourne and see a show, then fly to Sydney to see Lion King. Can anyone shed some light on the usual schedules? Buff

Well, seeing as Full Monty opens on New Years Eve (I think), I think it's fairly safe to say things are pretty much open for most of it. I could check properly if you like though. I have a Japanese essay to finish first, though ~Julia

Nope. They usually close for Christmas Day, but apart from that tend to stay running.

You're very correct there Lana! hehe HELLO BABY!!!
According to the Ticketek website, We Will Rock You is not on from 21 - 26 of December. However I'm not sure the cast will all go away for that time becuase they're singing at the music bowl for carols!

Today at the Carols by Candlelight launch, the girl hostin it (I really should know who it was) asked Michael and Kate whether they're doing anything for Christmas, and Michael said that he's flying up to Brisbane for a couple of days to see his family, after the carols, and I think Kate said something similar, so a few of them are probably running back home while they have the chance.

Well that makes sense, but if they're back on the 26th or 27th, then they won't have long! I find it odd that they are finishing before Christmas, surely it would be better to have a few days after Christmas if you're having to perform at Carols?

Well, I'd say that, judging from the launch, only about half the cast will be at Carols by Candlelight, so I think it's mainly the poor suckers who were dragged in people who are doing Carols who'll have that problem. And I glanced at Kate Hoolihan's website today, and she said that she's arranging a get-together for actors who are stuck in Melbourne for Christmas alone. That'll be something, at least.
