PTB Entertainment are putting on Music of the Night. Synposis is below, mostly it involves a collection of songs from well-known musicals. It's really great and if you're in Tassie, come along!

Who's singing what songs from the various shows?

I won't be able to go see it unfortunately because I go into hospital on 5th to have my tonsils out. I don't think I'll be up to going out to a show that week

Bah, what sort of an excuse is that?

Let's see. Tash is doing Um, thingy... I Don't Know How To Love Him.. Brett and I are (apparently) singing Beauty And the Beast (he's not yet been to a rehearsal so I have no idea how that will go).. Rick sings Rio, Talia is singing Memory.. Brett's singing a whole bunch of stuff. Group numbers include the Grease megamix, Cell Block Tango and Seasons of Love.

Had other engagements and missed seeing this one... How was it?

Love Judy Davies... gutsy talented lady who was harshly treated by some of the other groups in town...... good on her for starting up her own group... the Players and LMS have dropped the ball... this group has the potential to become the "mover and shaker" in town... and with Judy at the helm, I'm tipping some good stuff to come......

i met her at a function at the casino, and her credentials are top notch.

shame it seems that a selection of influencial directors in town see her as a threat....

I've never met Judy, and my understanding is that she knows what she is on about.

I'm not against anyone starting a theatre group, but when they go out of their way to say "We're not competing against other groups" and call their group PTB ("Powers that Be"), you have to wonder.

I not sure that it's people feel threatened by her, but she's burnt her bridges with them.

Hey there all - on my first night here I seem to putting out stuff on every thread! apologies if it seems obnoxious or anything.

That said...

Any theatre group that is new should surely be encouraged - regardless of acronym. more of them are needed to break a duopoly that ends up stifling new stuff, y'know?

Let them succeed or fail of their own accord, rather than cutting those "dreams" sown in one foul swoop.

There's been a bit of a "fringe" happening for a while in theatre in this town... it's where the least predictable stuff happens...

As I said, I don't have a problem about a new group. I was hoping to get to see their last show, but it just didn't work out. I'd love to have time to see all the shows (musicals & straight plays) that are performed around the place, but that's life I guess.

I find this really funny because I have never thought of it like that before ...

The meaning behind the name is not that the group or the performers are the Powers That Be - it actually refers to the greater powers that govern our lives and everything that happens. Your tyre goes flat ... its the Powers That Be!
