Mudlark Theatre is hosting a unique opportunity to develop your writing with our visiting artist, Donna Cameron.
Donna Cameron is travelling to Launceston to perform her stunning one-woman-show, The Flowering. This fusion of performance, text and sculpture takes the audience from raucous laughter through harrowing silence to tears of joyful recognition as it follows the story of Chloe as she returns home to seek reconciliation with her mother.
As a bonus opportunity for established and emerging playwrights, Donna will also be leading a playwright’s workshop entitled ‘The Wonder of Myth’.
Donna will take participants through a step by step, fool proof working methodology she discovered while working on her MA. Through deconstructing three plays from which she wrote from myth, Donna noticed there appeared to be a consistent pathway to creation. She articulated this into a ten-step guideline or template for writing modern plays based on ancient myths. During the workshop Donna will take participants through this template by revealing the construction of her one woman show The Flowering and her highly successful radio play The Salt Maiden.
Places at the workshop are strictly limited and included as part of the workshop package is a ticket to see The Flowering. ‘The Wonder of Myth’ will be held at Launceston College on Sunday 20 April and will run 9am to 3pm, with a one-hour break for lunch.
Participants must take up the opportunity to see The Flowering before attending the workshop, as a lot of discussion will be based around the production.
‘Myth is the secret opening through which the inexhaustible energies of the cosmos pour into human cultural manifestation…the very dreams that blister sleep, boil up from the basic, magic ring of myth. The wonder is that the characteristic efficacy to touch and inspire deep creative centers dwells in the smallest nursery fairy tale…’ - Joseph Campbell.
