Just to confuse you, Marry Me a Little is actually out of context in the show it is the title of. Marry Me a Little is a show of songs cut from early Sondheim musicals. I saw a production at Chapel Off Chapel in Melbourne a couple of years ago.
Many of the songs are from Saturday Night, but Marry Me a Little was actually cut from Company. It was the second attempt at a finale for the show (the first being "Happily Ever After", also in MMaL), but was cut for the reason that it seemed to make the character too self-knowing. It was replaced with Being Alive.
The current version of company has MMaL re-inserted before intermission. The original reason it was removed may still apply, the song does make him seem like he's worked things out, but the show gets away with it, in that his resolution to be "passionate as hell but always in control" doesn't always work in the real world, and his decision in Being Alive to just put up with the negatives of a relationship, is a logical step forward from his viewpoint in this song, that he should be able to avoid them.
Does that make sense?

I leave the question to see if there's anyone who actually knows something about the answer, and I come back to find an expert! Nice to have you here, James.

Wow James!! That is really very helpful. I had no idea that it was originally sung by a guy! Do you know how long ago MMAL was reinserted back into Company? Do you think it would be in the libretto? MC PS. Talissa... for some reason I can't write a reply under MarieChristine... I login and then I come to this topic and it says that I am a guest! Am I crazy?

I'll see if I can look into that for you, MC. I'm not sure what the problem might be. If nothing works, I might try resetting your password later.

I know that it was in the 1995 Broadway production, and that there was a London production the same year. The changes made in both productions were merged to make the current official version.
I also remember reading somewhere that the real reason it was removed in the first place is that it was too hard for Dean Jones to sing. I've never seen that from a reliable source, but it's a nice juicy story compared to characterisation reasons.
I'd like to claim to be an expert, but mostly I'm just a Sondheimphile. My main source was the liner notes in the Cast Recording of Marry Me a Little.
