I have heard rumours that Sydney Theatre Company is going to be producing Wicked.
Im an arts journo in the sticks in queensland and although we report on this stuff, no one bothers to tell us, so i have to go hunting and deal with PR people who cant do their job.
can anyone confirm this rumour to save an unnecessary call to a ball crushing PR B!tch

I haven't heard anything - then again I didn't go to the STC Annual Report night (which was two weeks ago) so they might have mentioned something that night. Hmm. Might suss them out at the theatre on Monday when I see Urinetown  |

Was chatting to a few people last weekend and I mentioned that surely Wicked must be coming to town given it's success on the West End, and the response was "Hate to break it to you Sare, it's too expensive, they just won't bring it here"... Shattered, simply shattered.

Yes i heard that as well, but i have heard from VERY reliable sources that it is in fact coming to australia and they are already auditioning dancers...
The too expensive thing was ages ago, i think a different production company picked it up.
Still cant find out who THAT is tho

Only if they've dramatically dropped their asking price for the Australian Rights. I also think a lot will depend on how the current crop of new shows do - TITANIC and PRISCILLA.
