Are there any musicals that you think would work really well as a movie? Not just ones that you'd like to see as a movie, but ones which you think would be able to be altered easily to fit the screen, and which would attract audiences.
I've been listening to JRB's Parade recently, and I think it would work really well as a movie. It's almost in the right format already, and would just need a little dialogue added, and perhaps some music cut out. I'm not sure who I'd put in it, because I don't know the musical well enough yet, but I don't think any of the roles are hugely vocally demanding, so there wouldn't be as much trouble casting as there is for PotO.

Ummm, not that I can think of at the mo. Except for Sound of Music. No wait, that's already a movie.... umm, nope. Can't think of anything!

Uh oh....did someone say "casting" in the same sentence as "poto"? I can feel war breaking out.... Well, of course I'd love to see Les Miserables as a musical, unlike some of the other movie versions that, while good, butchered the plot a bit. You'd need to cast excellent singers in the roles of Jean Valjean and Javert as well, I personally wouldn't see it if it didn't have Colm and Philip in those roles because they created them, (like crawford with Phantom...sorry) and should be given the chance to reprise them. The only danger would be having a pop star for Eponine and roles like that, that would ruin the movie. Another good one I think would be Miss Saigon, they could flesh it out so much more in terms of setting...I think that would be great as a feature film.

Miss Saigon would be good. I like that idea.
I wouldn't refuse to see a movie version of Les Mis if it didn't have Colm and Philip, but it would be nice if they were given the choice to do it. Like with Crawford and PotO, they might not necessarily want to. I think there would be quite a few famous names who'd be able to pull off Eponine well. It wouldn't be entirely a traditional portrayal, but I don't think it would be an entire disaster, as it would be if it was a pop star playing Cosette.
Have you seen the French movie of Les Mis, set in WW2? I love that one. The plot's thrown around quite a bit, but they still manage to keep the most important elements of the story strong. It's a very cleverly made film.

The shows I would like to see would be: 1. Les Miserables 2. Phantom of the Opera (starring Anthony, of course ) 3. Godspell (not the traditional "clown" style though) 4. Miss Saigon (one day I'll get to see that show ) Buff

I heard a rumour that MC had now turned down Phantom, but I thought it was still a rumour as there wasn't an article. But I wouldn't be surprised, the way he's been treated by Warner Brothers and ALW....
Yeah, that was probably an exageration, I would go see Les Mis without Colm and Philip, but it would probably ruin the experience because I would inevitably compare, and if they fell short it would be sad. Yeah, Cosette would be a hard one to cast but if they were going to put a pop singer in they'd have to do it as Eponine...although I think the die hard Eponine fans would be a bit angry about that. They could put some famous names in Les Mis without ruining the show, it would be interesting to see who they'd put as the Thenadiers (sp?), that would be funny.
I saw the TV series and the 1998 version, that one was terrible, but not this ww2 one. Is it still called Les Miserables or does it have another name? Sounds very interesting, like what they did with Heart of Darkness....sorry, randomness there.

Well, if you think of the number of time Crawford would have sung Music of the Night by now, you'd understand how sick he'd be of it all. No matter how fantastic a role is, or how much you love it, after singing the same songs a few thousand times each, they'd get a bit tiring.
The Thenardiers would be a fantastic opportunity for some famous names to get in there, because they just need to be funny, so the voice isn't as important.
Yep, it's called Les Miserables. It's a fantastic film.

Yes, I can imagine if I were him and having sung MOTN that many times, gawd...even just the number of times hes recorded different versions of it, let alone performances of Phantom or concerts. But I think he had a special connection with the role, and he has had a very long break from playing the role or singing it. I'll definitely have to check out this Les Miserables, sounds very interesting! Speaking of movie versions, has anyone seen the one with John Malcovich in it, (as Javert) I think it was a mini series and it was in French, (with subtitles of course) that was absolutely amazing, best version I've seen (apart from the musical of course) I wish I'd taped it, like I wish I'd taped everything.
