Having seen some 20 Frank 'n' Furters, I would have to say that Max Phipps was BY FAR the superior. Yes - eclipsing Tim Curry's portrayal.
We wll be featuring much of the Original Australian Cast recording on B@B over the next wee while and, although it is Reg Livermore on that recording, not Max Phipps, it, too remains my favourite recording of the piece.
In Melbourne the dis-used Channel 7 Tele Theatre was the home of ROCKY where they would do 13 shows as week! Apart from Max, the fabulous Tommy Dysart was the Narrator and his wife, Joan Brockenshire, was Magenta. It was an incredible production that I saw over 30 times. We just don't get that sort of quality anymore.
I suspect that the fabulous line up for the new Sydney production maybe the new benchmark.

Thank you Will. I feel that my feelings about the original Melbourne production and subsequent presentations were not wild figments of my imagination now.
I do worry that over the years - as you can attest - the show has been somewhat "cleaned up" from what we remember. As Paul Dainty is co producer of this new production I think it will be not disimilar to that which Craig Mc Loughlin starred in at the Comedy. The promotional photos would indicate that they are taking the design from the movie lead.

Although the role of the Narrator in ROCKY has now been announced, we are doing this stupid debate over the ideal casting for the role on B@B this weekend. PAUL DELLIT and ANNA BAKEWELL will be the panelists - one arguing 'for' and one arguing 'against'. We would love you to suggest a few..... George Bush? Pauline Hanson? Be as stupid as you like and go the website for more details. We will choose and award the 2 best debate suggestions. Take care all, WILL www.broadwayatbedtime.com

Thanks KJ. I'm a John Waters fan though I didn't know he had a myspace page - I must check it out. I can go way back to seeing him in the NY Shakespeare musical version of TWO GENTLEMEN OF VERONA (does anyone here even know of that?) at Her Majesty's Theatre. I do however, wish he was appearing in something a little more worthy of his abilities than ROCKY HORROR - how about a local DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS? I am quite looking forward to seeing two favourite obessions (John and Rocky) combined on the one stage !! But I have to say - I have been suggesting Dirty Rotten Scoundrels to him for AGES! He would be totally ideal for it. I built his official fansite back in 98 - just a few pages liked from my own home page back then. But it grew and grew and became its own entity about 7 years ago. I only built the myspace sites in recent months as he is recording an album and I wanted a different way of promoting it. So one is for the album and the music side of him www.myspace.com/johnrwaters and the other is a general fanspace www.myspace.com/johnwatersofficialfansite Anyway - I have bought my tiks for the first week of Rocky shows and am now counting down the months !

Here are two horrific ideas for the Narrator - Bindi Irwin (she does a nice line at reading from notes) and Jeanie Little (oo- ahh!). I'm trying to think of someone with a bad stutter...
