So Shane Jacobson as Nicely I guess. And who's Magda playing?

Magda is Big Jule if I remember correctly. And yes, Shane is Nicely.

The casting of Szubanski as Big Jule (normally a male role) is hardly revolutionary. In the 1970's there was a production of G & D that did the same thing. In that instance the role was played by a terrific local actress, Marion Edward. GUYS AND DOLLS was the opening show for a 700 seat theatre that used to be in Russell Street called The Total Theatre, it later became Billboard nightclub and I don't know what it is now. It was a good theatre which sadly was underused. Other shows that played there were KENNEDY'S CHILDREN, FATHERS DAY and the musical LET MY PEOPLE COME...just a little history.
Is Magda Szubanski going to specialise in playing male roles? (SPELLING BEE and now G & D).

No one...yet, I was making a point that it was done years ago by Jon Ewing in his 1970's production. You can bet that there will be much ado about it in future publicity though. I really can't understand why this show is being done. GUYS AND DOLLS has never sold in this country for one reason or another, and I don't think this new production will change the pattern previously set.

Just wondering if anyone knows when G&D will be finishing up?
I want to get tickets for a friend of mine for the closing night. I know they're selling tickets to June 29 so far and wasn't sure if that was closing night.

group sales have now been extended through to september. tickets sell quick and can get hard to come by so book as early as you can. The show has been huge and wonderfully successful with even the house seats being sold by the producers and hard to come by for even the cast and production team!!!!
The upper dress circle has been open and populated for every show except maybe 3 or 4 and they are currently over 65 performances into the season. Word is the melbourne season should chock up 200 performances at the very least and why not when you get the once in a lifetime chance to see Marina and Lisa together on stage!
Also watch for the entire cast at this years Helpmann Awards as rumour is Guys and Dolls are being flown to sydney to perform!!

Paule, thanks for the information, I'll keep an eye out for those tickets. Might have to try and snag a Helpmann ticket like previous years.

I saw their closing performance.. And it was alright. And I hadn't previously heard much about the show. The female cast was brilliant.. Lisa and Marina were outstanding. Sky was great to.. But I really didn't enjoy many of the other male cast members, with a few acceptions.
