No, I don't know any of them yet, sorry if I got anyone excited But I realised we didn't actually have a specific thread for this year's shows, so here goes if anyone hears any rumours and the like. Anyway, first piece of news, heard earlier that Sunset Boulevard had been seriously on the cards - but no mention of whether it's still on the cards, is now definite, or has been scrapped. But it's a start! (Personally, I'd prefer not to have SB done by TPC, but if they cast it well I'd probably end up loving it and having to eat my words well and truly.)

No, I don't know any of them yet, sorry if I got anyone excited I should think so. I expect to find out late cos I've moved since I subscribed last year. So I'm relying on you guys. As for Sunset Boulevard, I haven't seen it yet, so I won't rule it out, but it wasn't on that long ago, and it doesn't really suit their style, I wouldn't think. James

From what I've heard, the punters atm are backing Kiss Me Kate, Sunset Boulevard and Oklahoma. That does give a nice range of composers (though I was hoping not to see them do an ALW any time soon. To make up for it they'll have to do a Sondheim. Or JRB's Parade. That's a tricky one due to casting, but might be easier at TPC's scale...), and with such wonderful casting potential. Want to start speculating? (Bear in mind people who won't be available for various reasons, because wonderful as they'd be, even the most talented can't be two places at once)

From what I've heard, the punters atm are backing Kiss Me Kate, Sunset Boulevard and Oklahoma. *falls off chair* I said I'd be damn surprised if they didn't do KMK but watch me gape when it actually comes up as a possibility! LOL. (And I'm sure everyone who knows me knows I've been convinced on KMK for bloody ages now, and also convinced on Oklahoma ever since Carousel. *looks around cautiously* maybe JP does have spies out!) I wonder who that last comment was directed at? I'll have to drag out my original casts and see what changes can be made. But with KMK and Oklahoma, that means I really want to double cast Scott Irwin. Oh well, he did it fine last year! I started getting really into pre-casting Sunset Blvd this morning but realised I don't know the musical half as well as the William Holden film. However I have a brilliant Joe lined up, and a strange idea for Norma that could be pulled off...but I don't really see it happening outside of my mind.

Can always dream that they can get Hugh back in Australia for Oklahoma - damn if only Jindabyne was being filmed a few months later on instead of March *g* he'd be here in Oz

I don't want to post a complete cast for anything if there's any possibility it could be done because I'd only be shown up as horribly wrong, but if they did KMK I'd adore Sharon Millerchip as Bianca, possibly Marina Prior and Scott Irwin together again as Fred and Lilli (I have a better Fred in mind but he wouldn't work with Marina, and I can't think of anyone else at present for Lilli) - but definitely Gary Down and Adam Murphy as the two thugs whose names I can't remember, but they get to sing Brush Up Your Shakespeare, and I just LOVE the idea of those two doing that song. Or at least one of them!

Can always dream that they can get Hugh back in Australia for Oklahoma Not to mention Sunset Boulevard. You wouldn't think they'd even propose Sunset unless they had a Norma in mind. I'm not sure who though. As for Oklahoma (do other people sing the song to remember how that's spelled), the only idea I would have is Andrew Koblar as Will. The most important casting decision for mine is Ado Annie, but I've no ideas. I'm no good at this. James.

I'd love to see Geraldine Turner as Norma. I may be pounded for that, though. I was just extremely impressed with her at LL (Review forthcoming, but I'm a busy girl).

I saw the Sunset concert at Luna Park last year and it worked well concert style so I think the Production Company could pull it off. Judi Connelli was the perfect Norma.
As for KMK well I would like to see Adam Murphy as Bill since I missed the Court Theatre production.

It appears Marina Prior and Scott Irwin will be heading KMK this year, and Ian Stenlake will be Curly in Oklahoma. Well done to TPC for avoiding typecasting, despite having three 'western' musicals in two years! I'd absolutely love to see David Campbell as Max in SB, though. Let's hope. ~Julia

lol Sally I'm waiting for the full cast announcement etc for all 3 before I decide whether or not I'll go down for them. Trying to save the money even though I'll be go down to Melbourne a few times in the year *g* Lol I think we can rule some of the Grease cast members out of them appearing in the first TPC production because I think it might just clash, but not 100% sure - regardless it'll be the first time in 3 years Tamsin's not in one. Though if we can get DC in SB I'd go down to see that ETA: One day someone will do Thoroughly Modern Millie - that is the one musical I wish they'd bring to Australia, especially after its success on Broadway and at the Tony Awards a few years back.

If these three are correct (Kiss Me Kate, Oklahoma! and Sunset Boulevard) then the only one worth seeing would be Kiss Me Kate.
We've all seen Oklahoma! before (most recently the Jackman TV version) and it's only a few years ago since Sunset Boulevard. I thought that the Production Company's mission statement was to present shows which don't normally get an airing. Maybe they should check out NY's Encore series or Los Angeles ' Reprise! series for inspiration. It's hard to get enthused over such a lacklustre list of shows. Where is their imagination?

A TV version of a musical hardly counts. Especially since most of the shows TPC have produced have film versions, so one could easily just hire a video. No, Oklahoma's fine, I say.
