from what I've heard the show's been anglicised. By that do you mean that in the original it's Americanized? That's not good. Oz is supposed to be an antidote to America. James

Well, it's always been in American accents, which is understandable giving that's where it began, and sure, you could just go and change all the accents to English accents, but the problem with that is that American and English culture have different interpretations of the same idea. I don't think that was quite clear, but the best example I could think of is from before Urinetown opened here, and I was trying to work out how it would be with Australian accents, since again, it's a show that isn't actually set in America, so the accents could conceivably be changed. But I just couldn't work out what Ms Pennywise would sound like. That makes no sense. Too early in the morning, I think

All this continued fuss about accents! It's Oz, not America/England...who knows what an Ozian accent actually sounds like? The only character that really needs a specific accent is the Wizard, as he's American.
I just walked away for ten minutes and completely forgot what I was going to say. Hah.
I do find it funny though that apparently all of the college/school references in the original production have been changed to uni ones.

That last one's a great article - I wouldn't be surprised come the Gala Night and also Opening Night if footage rocks up on BBC, Sky News, etc.

Hello All! Long time no post! Sorry for my lack thereof! Work has been crazy and busy- hence my insomnia (I am writing this at 4am!)- however, my evil insomnia has caused me to find this on aussietheatre.com so there's something good about insomnia after all I guess... Aussie Aussie Aussie!! Lucy Durack reaches top 12 of Voice of Musical Theatre competition Monday, October 16, 7:30am AEST Australian cabaret and musical theatre performer Lucy Durack has reached the top 12 in the BBC Radio 2 Voice of Musical Theatre competition in the United Kingdom. The worldwide competition provides a cash prize to the winner, a package of major career boosters and much more. The competition is internationally renowned and is highly regarded in the theatre industry right across the world. Speaking to AussieTheatre.com from the UK this morning, Durack said: "I'm really excited because the 12 of us now get to perform our sets with a 31 piece orchestra and it will be broadcast on BBC2, so my family can even listen over the internet! It's just fantastic to me be through, I'm really happy." Durack appeared in the smash hit musical Mamma Mia! and most recently was seen in The Production Company's Thoroughly Modern Millie. She is known quite extensively for her cabaret work, performing her hit show Immaculate Confection to sold out audiences across the country and winning the Judges Award at the 2003 Sydney Cabaret Convention. Australian performers Hayden Tee and Chelsea Plumley have had success at the competition in past years, but there has never been an Australian winner.

I found this on the Dresscircle Board (spoilers in case anyone was planning to listen to BBC Radio 2 at 4.30 am tomorrow or to the "Listen Again" feature): Voice of Musical Theatre Semi finals...(Spoiler) Leon Craig Jamie Lee Wilson Morgan Crowley Lucy Durak Gabriel Vick Helena Blackman ... ... ... And the winner was Lucy Durak Sang: Vanilla Ice Cream I could have danced all night Popular very good, two of the others will go through but won't know until Thursday night Second Semi has: Gemma O'Duffy Christian Jon Billet Elisabeth Baron Aimie Atkinson (only "amateur" through) Ben Fleetwood Smyth Heln Goldwyn Congrats to Lucy! I can't tell how good the competition is as I only know two other names in the last 12 - Helena Blackman (who came second in the How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria TV show) and Christian Jon Billet who I remember seeing in Martin Guerre in 1999 (and he was in something I saw in September but I'm blanking on what!).

What incredible news for Lucy! Has anybody managed to play the semi-finals on the bbc radio website? Here's the link again - www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/events/voiceofmusicaltheatre/?focuswin - but when I try to listen to the semis I get an error message. Just wondering if anyone else has managed to hear them? As Talissa said, The Grand Final will air at 4am this morning but I assume that by the time we wake up over here we should know how she's done. What a legend!! Go Lucy!! xx

Okay, so we heard this a week ago, but I got distracted. The latest in Aussie London casting news is that Yvette Robinson will be taking over as the alternate Eva Peron in Evita, and Mark Dickinson will be in the cast of The Drowsy Chaperone.
I'm especially excited about Yvette. I just wish I could see her! She'll do an amazing job, I'm sure.
