The Launceston Players' Theatre Workshops

Dear Arts Colleague,

Thank you to all those who filled out and returned our Questionnaire in relation to the topics for the proposed Workshops.

We are very pleased to announce that, as a result of your responses, the first two Workshops to be held the weekend of Friday 22nd, Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th August 2008 at the Annexe Theatre will offer the following topics conducted by professionally trained tutors:

• Workshop 1 - Accents / Voice Projection / Vocal Health
• Workshop 2 - Acting

The Workshops will run concurrently and the format will be as follows:

Friday Night 7pm Registration, Meet and Greet, Drinks and introduction of tutors.
Each tutor sets a task that night to think about for the next
morning.

Saturday 10 – 12.30pm Session 1
Saturday 1-4pm Session 2
Saturday 7pm Out to dinner

Sunday 10 – 12.30 Session 3
Sunday 1-4pm Session 4 - Share workshop outcomes and forum discussion

Registration is essential for these workshops and will require your full commitment. You can expect the experience to be stimulating, demanding, challenging – but very achievable – all of
which will extend your performance skills.

We ask that you wear appropriate gear for the acting work eg loose fitting light-weight clothing, flat rubber soled shoes and head band (if you have long hair). You will also need to bring along a pad, pencil and your own water bottle. Tea and coffee facilities will be available all through the day. The cost for the weekend is only $10.00 and will cover the tea/coffee expenses.

Your RSVP is required prior to close of business on Friday 15 August 2008 by email: producer@launcestonplayers.com or 0429 337 484. Please indicate if you will be joining us for the meal on Saturday night – a purely social function.

Heard from a reliable source that it will LMS will be producing "The Producers" in July 2009. To be directed and MD'd by Denise Sam.

An interesting little story - I heard my physio talking yesterday and he said he had booked to see the Sound of Music because a lot of the people in SoM had been in Les Mis in 2001 and he thought that Les Mis was amazing (which it was!) and as good as the productions he saw in melbourne and London.

Incredible that the people still remember that show and talk about it over 7 years later.

Devonport Choral Society are putting on "Sweeney Todd" in 2009.

From their website:

DCS is excited to be working on its lastest production, Sweeney Todd, due to be staged in May/June 2009. Director Sid Sidebottom, who has already demonstrated his ability to successfully stage Sondheim with productions of Into the Woods and West Side Story, is once again taking the helm. He has secured the talented Petrina Jantz as his musical director and, in somewhat of a coup, has managed to lure the amazingly gifted Des Robertson out of retirement to design the set. Production meetings are already underway.

An information evening for Sweeney Todd will be held in the Uniting Church Hall in Steele St Devonport on the evening of October 31st. For those of you interested in superstition and coincidence, this is Halloween - a suitable evening to launch the search for our own Demon Barber of Fleet Street! Auditions will be held the following weekend.
